Dear Friends in Christ,
"Holy living gives priority to the neighbor. ...holy living, when it is most faithful, is as diverse in its expression as the needs of the neighbor and as fresh and new as each day's rising to a baptismal life in Jesus Christ."

Acts of the Apostles Study

Every Sunday we have Adult Bible Study in the Conference Room from 9:45 to 10:45.  We are studying the Book of Acts.  Please bring your own Bible.

Laurel Blanchard Update

Laurel Blanchard has moved to Mount Vernon Rehabilitaton Center in Alexandria.  This has been a good week for her.  She is now opening her eyes more and is communicating with head nods and is trying to mouth words.  Her physical therapy sessions will take place 3 times per days for about an hour each time.  John says visitors are welcome.  For details, please ask either Pastor Jim or Pastor Carol.  Thanks to Bonnie Murphy and our Health Ministry Team for preparing meals for the Blanchard Family.  Happy Birthday to Josh Blanchard who had his 5th birthday party on Saturday, June 27.  John really appreciates all the prayers and best wishes from his Resurrection Family.

Presiding Bishop's Call for 50 Days of Prayer

"Marked with the cross of Christ forever, we are claimed, gathered, and sent for the sake of the world."

We are an evangelizing church, and this mission flows out of a life attentive to God's Word and rooted in unceasing prayer for the Spirit's life-giving work with the Word. In the seven weeks leading to the start of the ELCA Churchwide Assembly on Aug. 17, I invite you to join in 50 days of renewed and focused prayer around the Scriptures that will be used at the assembly, when your co-workers in the Gospel are daily gathered, centered and sent into mission.

Bishop Mauney's Pastoral Letter

A proposed social statement on Human Sexuality comes to the 2009 Churchwide Assembly in August. Our own Virginia Bishop Jim Mauney has crafted a pastoral letter to us all regarding Recommendation One of the Task Force's Report and Recommendations.  Read the Introduction first and then follow the included link to the Pastoral Letter

A Big Property Team Thank You!

hammer cross
The Property Team would like to recognize and thank Frank Jacobeen, Norm Sahley and Berrie Patton for spreading three loads of mulch on the West side of the new building.  These folks have worked hard to ensure the new plants are going to survive the summer heat, retain much needed moisture and to reduce weed growth.   The area looks great!  Thank you.

Finance Update

On the Sunday after the Congregational Meeting, the offerings looked healthy for a third Sunday in June.  M&M was over $8,000 (usually just over $6,000) and Building was over $5,000 (usually just over $2,000).  Our hope is to end our fiscal year 2008-2009 with no deficit in our M&M account.  In March we were about $21,000 in the red.  At the end of May we had reduced this to just over $4,000 in the red.

"Here is the truly Christian life, here is faith really working by love, when a man applies himself with joy and love to the works of that freest servitude in which he serves others voluntarily and for nought, himself abundantly satisfied in the fulness and riches of his own faith."
