Halloween and World Hunger

If you'll be giving treats this Halloween, reflect on the following:

In 2006 American spent $16.9 billion on candy and gum, which amounts to 26 pounds or $61 of candy per person. (Source: U.S. Census Bureau)candy

For Halloween 2007 Americans planned to spend about $65 per person on candy, decorations, and costumes-$19 on candy alone. (Source: National Retail Federation)

On average, ELCA members gave a little over $4.32 per baptized member to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal in 2007.

Then consider . . .

Giving a gift to ELCA World Hunger Appeal comparable to (or more than) your Halloween expenses and offering it through our congregation in November.  Make your donation check out to Resurrection Lutheran Church and write "ELCA World Hunger Appeal" on the memo line.
Encouraging your children to share with others who struggle with hunger and poverty. Perhaps connect the candy they consume with the contributions your family is offering. Go to www.elca.org/hunger for more information.
