Dear Friends in Christ,

A prayer from our Bishops...

"Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ dignified our labor by sharing our toil.  Guide us with your justice in the workplace, so that we may never value things above people, or surrender honor to love of gain or lust for power.  Prosper all efforts to put an end to work that brings no joy, and teach us how to govern the ways of business to the harm of none and for the sake of the common good; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen."

Missionaries in Nepal

Where is Nepal?

NepalOur World Mission Support Team at Resurrection  is providing support to missionaries in Nepal.  Some parishioners -- though not nearly as many as those who asked about Eritrea -- have asked "where is Nepal".  The map to the left gives you a good orientation -- it's on the Indian subcontinent in the Himalayas between India and China.  Go to Google Maps for a closer look!  Go to Wikipedia for country information on either Nepal or Eritrea.  Next month...Papua New Guinea!

Building Progress

Red RoofJust in time for Reformation Sunday, check out our new red roof on the south end of the building.  Since this photo was taken, gutters have been installed, curbing and sidewalks have been poured!  Inside, the drywall is about done and the painters have started painting.  Ceilings should start going up next week.  The final site work and parking lot will be coming soon!  We now have a field to the west of our building.  When Bishop Mauney is here, on Oct 26th we're planning on all going into the new Fellowship Hall to take a look inside!
Prayer Vigils

Our Resurrection Prayer Ministry invites all members to participate in two upcoming Times to Pray.  The first is the day before the dedication of our new building.  The Sanctuary and Family Life Center will be open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday, October 25th.  Please use the poster in the Narthex to sign up for the 15 minute prayer times.

The second prayer time is scheduled for the day before our national election (Monday, November 3rd).  The Sanctuary will be open form 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm and you may come whenever you wish.

What is Benevolence?

From your Stewardship Team

What is "Benevolence"???

Each month 8% of our offerings which we give in gratitude and thanksgiving for the blessings which are ours are given as Benevolence - the desire to do good for others -- to support the works of our Virginia Synod and the church at large, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.  The funds we provide support the spread of the Gospel throughout our state, the nation, and the world through the many varied programs of witness and service of the Lutheran church.  Our goal is to increase our congregation's benevolence to 20% by the year 2020 - one percent increase every year out of our operating budget - not used for ourselves, but for others.  By so doing, we set the example for all our families - we should all share the blessings we have been given with a strong desire to do good for others!

Blessed to Bee a Blessing!

Giving our lives joyfully in witness and service!.

Grace and Peace!
