ParaSport Ontario Welcomes New Staff

ParaSport Ontario is proud to welcome Eric Cartlidge and Kate Brownlee to team. New Executive Director, Eric Cartlidge comes to us after 6 years with the Ontario Sailing Association where he was their Program Director. He brings to ParaSport Ontario a passion for and a commitment to sport. In addition, Eric brings with him many skills and abilities that will be invaluable to ParaSport Ontario. 2012 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games Bracelet's On Sale Now

Local businesses throughout Huntsville are supporting the 2012 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games by selling official Games bracelet's. These will be used during the weekend of the Games to gain access to all venues for spectators to come out and enjoy the action. They cost $2.00 and can be found at over twenty-five business throughout the Huntsville area. If you are not in the area but wish to support the games and purchase a bracelet, contact Matt Rhodes.

Recreational Goalball League Starts Up
| |  OBSA In Partnership with City of Toronto
The Ontario Blind Sports Association (OBSA) and the City of Toronto have been working together to create a Recreational Goalball league. Beginning this Fall, the City of Toronto will be hosting a drop-in Recreational Goalball League at Mitchell Field Arena, located at 89 Church Avenue, near Finch Subway Station. The Fall season will begin Saturday, October 15th, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m and run every Saturday for a 9 week duration.
During each session, participants will learn the fundamentals of the sport, the rules, safety precautions and play full games. The main goal of this league is to increase participation in the sport and get as many people involved as possible. People of all ages, and all visual abilities are invited to come out. No experience necessary, and no visual impairment necessary, all participants will be blindfolded. Sledge Hockey Players Face Off in Huntsville

Successful Windsor-Essex ASC Launch

9th Accessible Sport Council officially launched in the Windsor Essex County
In conjunction with the Boiling Point International Wheelchair Track Classic, the Windsor-Essex ASC was launched on July 9th, 2011. The $2500 start-up grant from ParaSport Ontario, provided through bi-lateral funding from Sport Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion via its Active 2011, will be used by the Windsor-Essex ASC to promote, support, and celebrate existing inclusive sports and activities and assist in the creation of and advocate new sports, activities, and clubs in the area...read more

| Camp Awakening | |  RWA Sessions for Campers Camp Awakening, an integrated, outdoor recreation program for youth aged 9-18 with physical disabilities, featured both wheelchair basketball and sledge hockey through two RWA sessions run by ParaSport Ontario for their campers. Participants had a great experience trying out the two sports and receiving instruction from the Athlete Ambassadors. Two of ParaSport Ontario's Athlete Ambassadors are alumni of the camp and Shayne Smith, who was the Ambassador for the wheelchair basketball day loved being back there and was practically a hero to the campers. Huntsville Terry Fox Run

The Huntsville 2012 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games Organizing Committee submitted a team in this year's Terry Fox Run. Games co-Chair Debbie Kirwin, General Manager, Myke Malone and the Staff at ParaSport Ontario pushed the grueling 10k in all-court sports chairs on Sunday, Sept. 18th in Huntsville.
The 2012 OPWG and ParaSport Ontario are proud to support The Terry Fox Foundation in its ongoing work to fund innovative and progressive cancer research programs. Collectively as a team, $2,000 was raised towards cancer research.
