PARASPORT DIRECTORY
Through funding made available by the Ministry of Health Promotion (Active 2010 - Sport Priority), and the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Paralympics Ontario is conducting a ParaSport Survey throughout the province. The goal of this survey is to create a comprehensive directory listing ParaSport opportunities for persons with a physical disability that wish to engage in sport.
ParaSports are defined as any sport for athletes with a physical disability. ParaSports are often referred to as "adaptive sports" or "Paralympic sports".
Organizations will be included in the Ontario ParaSport Directory that will feature an extensive list of sporting opportunities. The directory will include grass roots, recreational, and elite ParaSport programs. It will be made available electronically at www.paralympicsontario.ca as well as in a hard copy format, for use by athletes, parents, healthcare providers, clubs, associations and others.
Through the partnership Paralympics Ontario has with the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC), programs will also be listed in the CPC "Feel the Rush" database found at www.paralympic.ca
This survey will also be used to discover communities that may qualify for Paralympics Ontario's Community Sport Development Program/funding, as the information collected will be used to identify areas throughout Ontario where there is need to develop programs for athletes with physical disabilities.
Paralympics Ontario encourages anyone to forward this survey to any organization that offers programs that you feel reflect the goals of this survey.
