An event preceding the holiday season celebrations of elves parading about town and shops decorating in reds and greens to highlight the spirit of the season; The South Miami Arts Festival happens.
The Chamber South's 40th Annual South Miami Arts Festival promises to be another fine art extravaganza November 5 and 6 with more than 100 artists from around the country participating and over 50,000 art aficionados expected to attend. Read more...

Trustee Spotlight - Ed Williamson

Ed Williamson 
For 44 years Ed Williamson has been building a legacy as one of Miami's most distinguished automobile dealers.  Williamson Automotive, offers Cadillac, Buick, GMC new and used vehicles. 

 

In December of 1967, his father founded George Williamson Cadillac Company in Miami, and Ed joined him in the family business as a new car salesman.  Five years later, Ed became president of the company, and in December of 1976, he and his brother Tom purchased the dealership from their father and renamed it Williamson Cadillac Company. 

 

Today Williamson is an award-winning dealership, earning GM Dealer of the Year numerous times, and the Cadillac Master Dealer Award for more than 30 years.  Ed Williamson is also an active member of the civic and charitable community, serving such organizations as the Orange Bowl Committee, The University of Miami and the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, just to name a few.  Ed resides in Coral Gables with his wife, Carol Williamson and has a son, Trae Williamson who is President of Williamson Automotive as well.

Oct. 31, 2011 - Members of the South Miami Drug-Free Coalition recently elected their slate of officers for a two-year term of service on the group's executive committee. Officers provide fiscal and programmatic oversight for the coalition board, which implements strategies to reduce drug and alcohol use in South Miami.
 

The officers elected are:

Chairman: Kathy Sparger, R.N., MSN, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, South Miami Hospital

Vice Chairman: Andrew S. Yagoda, P.A., Principle, Andrew S. Yagoda Law Offices, PA

Secretary/Treasurer: Paul Merker, MS, CAC, CAP, Certified Addiction Therapist

Margaret Prinzavalli Sotham, director of the Informed Families South Miami Drug-Free Coalition, has been elected to the Miami Dade County School Health Medical Advisory Board. The board is mandated by Florida statue to develop a school health plan, monitor and review school health services and develop new school health services.

Karen Nercess and her husband Ed, both photographers, have owned All Star Event Photography studio since 1988. Specializing in Business Portraits, for individuals and groups, corporates events, with on site printing and youth sports leagues potography.

 

Karen, aka "the paparazzi"  is an active member of the local business associations, and enjoys photographing the business events. As a business member, Karen is a proud to be on  the Not for Profit Committee, surrounded by talented, enthusiastic members who continue to make a difference on a daily basis for Not For Profit organizations.

Both of these students attend David Fairchild and competed in the poster contest that First National Bank of South Miami sponsored to promote Twiglet Bank.

 

If you don't know , Twiglet was the first bank in the nation created for children and run by children. It is housed in the train caboose at David Fairchild Elementary. First National Bank of South Miami proudly sponsored the bank since its creation in 1987.

Doug Hiller

Doug Hiller graduated from UM Law in May of 2000 (where he graduated cum laude) and then went on to complete his Masters of Business Administration in May of 2001, with specializations in Finance and International Business.

 

He also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Spanish and International Studies from Emory University, is bilingual and has studied in Spain and Austria, which helps him serve the firm's international clients.

 

He has been with the firm of Robinson & Associates, P.A. for more than 7 years.  When he is not busy working, Doug spends his time long distance running, cycling and an occasional scuba diving trip down to the keys.  Doug is also on the fundraising committee for the Keymorada Invitational Fly-Spin Fishing Tournament to benefit the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.
