Natural Secrets for Shooing Pesky Insects
Ditch the
Summer Slump
Despite the distractions and heat of summer, reclaim productive time with the following tips:

Set the thermostat at the optimal temperature for working: 70-72 degreesFor every degree over 77 degrees, productivity drops 2%, and below 68 degrees, error rates increase dramatically.

Switch up your routine or where you work.  Hold a meeting outside, get some sun on a break, take a project to a coffee shop, or switch up the order of your tasks.

Try a new productivity method.  Summer is a great time to try out new
ways to improve your work.  Try working in 25 minute bursts, playing music, or finding better ways to multitask.

Work your best hours.   Tackle your most important tasks and carefully block out your time so you're working when your mind is freshest and most focused.

Avoid A Midsummer Nightmare with timely tips for beating Summer Slump and booting Summer Pests.

Natural Secrets for Shooing Pesky Insects

Enjoy summer without fussing over uninvited "guests."  Yank the welcome mat with these natural solutions:

Ants  Deter ants in the house with dry, crushbackyard partyed mint leaves (tea bags work, too) or cloves, and strategically-placed garlic cloves will keep the ants off your patio.  For a long-term nontoxic fix, sprinkle diatomaceous earth where ants congregate.

Mosquitoes  If you're using the barbecue, throw a bit of sage or rosemary on the coals to repel mosquitoes.  Make a natural bug repellent by mixing one part garlic juice with five parts water in a small spray bottle -hang strips of cotton cloth wettened with the mixture or spray it on your skin.

outdoor partyFlies  Small sachets of crushed mint or bay leaves, cloves, and eucalyptus wrapped in cheesecloth can serve as fly deterrents around the home and by windows or doors.

Moths  Aromatic cedar chips in a cheesecloth square, or cedar oil in an absorbent cloth will repel moths.  Make moth-repelling sachets using any of the following: bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, cloves, eucalyptus leaves, lavender, pepper corns or wormwood.

Marigold

BONUS TIP: Planting marigolds around your yard works as a natural bug repellent because the flowers give off a fragrance bugs and flying insects don't like.  (Check with your favorite nursery or garden center for advice on the best variety.)

baking soda paste

Despite precautions, or when you're unprotected, stings or bites can happen.  Use baking soda to relieve stings and itchy bug bites.  Mix a few teaspoons with a small amount of water to form a paste and apply directly to skin.  For  multiple bites or stings: Add baking soda to warm bath water; soak for 15 minutes.
