5 Keys to Flower Arranging with Flair

From the market or your yard, fresh flowers add an easy elegance to any space.

VaseThink outside the vase - Consider any open container for holding flowers, including those you wouldn't normally think of using, like a water pitcher or champagne flute.  Even an item that won't hold water can be used simply by placing a smaller vase, bottle, or other container inside it.

A dull blade just won't cut it - Use a sharp pair of scissors or knife to trim flowers. This will give a sharp even cut, allowing water to enter the flower stems. A ragged edge actually inhibits water and food absorption, making flowers fade faster.

Mix and Match - For an interesting effect with little effort, combine different flowers in the same color.  Or use the same kind of flower in different colors, making one of the colors the star.

Help flowers keep their cool - Use very cold water in the container and change it regularly. Adding an ice cube or two every so often will help your flowers last longer, especially if they're in a warm location.

Don't worry about perfection - While formal arrangements are suitable for very certain occasions, in your home and for everyday, less "perfect" arrangements can have just as much, if not more, appeal, charm and beauty.

Make the merry month of May even more so - count on California Concierge for everything from picking out the perfect graduation gift to readying your home for the season, giving you time to enjoy what truly matters to you.

Do what you love, and let California Concierge take care of the rest.
