Greetings!

Does summer feel more like "Taking Care of Business" than "Surfin' Safari"?
Well, get ready to have "Fun, Fun, Fun" because we've got the SPF to help you avoid summer burnout, along with tips to improve your summer image.

4 Secrets to Avoiding Summer Burnout

woman overwhelmedTrying to be "everything to everyone at all times" is a recipe for mental and physical disaster, even more so in summer when we especially long to sit back and relax.  Here's how to avoid a summer burn(out)

Take Your Vacation Days

Many people forfeit vacation days in order to spend more time working.  It's important, though, to schedule - and take - what's coming to you.  And regularly make at least one day a week that you're completely "off work."

Enjoy Something - Anything

When your to-do list just keeps getting longer, at the end offamily biking the day it can feel like you haven't had a single enjoyable moment.  Even if you have to calendar it, do something each day that you enjoy and that is just for you.

Outsource

What can you outsource?  Consider anything that doesn't have to be done by you!  Determine what you can off-load, give clear instructions with any necessary deadlines to that person whether it's a family member, a colleague or someone you've hired just for that project.  Then, let go, and don't take it back.

Set Tech Boundaries

When everyone has immediate access to you all the time, it can quickly seem like your life is being taken over.  As tough as it may be, set business hours during which you will respond to frazzled, working at computeremails and phone calls.  If needed, set up auto-response so colleagues will know when you'll get back to them. Something we've done in our family is declare one day each week (in our case, Sundays) as a computer-free day.  The first few weeks, admittedly, I experienced withdrawal.  But it wasn't long until I began looking forward to being unplugged on this day!

5 Tips to Improve Your Mirror Image

yellow polka-dot bikiniOk, so we don't wear anything "itsy bitsy teeny weeny" anymore.  Summer's styles still have us glancing sideways in the mirror.  Here, 5 tips if the mirror image needs a little polishing.

Savor Your MealIt takes 20 minutes to feel full.  So, when you eat quickly, you may be reaching for mofriends enjoying a mealre before your body's had time to realize you've had enough.  Avoid overeating by simply slowing down.

Grill Extra - Avoid the fast food fall-back by cooking plenty while the grill's going.  Portion the extras into containers along with some steamed veggies, and freeze.  Now you've got a healthy meal just minutes away!

Get Distracted - You know which cravings sabotage your goal.  Before you cave in, call a friend, read an article, take a short walk...anything that will take your mind off of - and your hand away from - the temptation.

 water bottle

Drink More Water - Water's a great health drink for many reasons...not the least of which is, it helps you feel full - and less interested in reaching for more food.  Keeping a bottle or glass-full always near you makes it easier to get the 6-8 cups each day.  Don't like it plain?  Try a slice of lemon or lime in it.

Get Moving - Do something you enjoy so you're more inclined to stick with it.  Having trouble fitting excercise into your day? Think of ways to add steps (or other movement) into what you have to do anyway...like parking farther from an entrance, taking the stairs instead of the elevator or lifting those heavy groceries bags several times before setting them down.

Relax and enjoy your summer!  And, remember, you can outsource many things to us, giving you freedom to enjoy what's important to you.

Do what you love, and let California Concierge take care of the rest.

Sincerely,

Susan Hamersky
