THANKING OUR TROOPS

"Thanks for the Memories"

That was the signature closing Bob Hope sang during his annual holiday USO tours.  Entertaining was his way of letting our troops know they were loved and appreciated.

candy caneToday, Operation Gratitude does the same through sending packages.  And thanks to you who partnered with California Concierge last month to donate food, gifts and postage, Operation Gratitude expects to ship its 6,000th package this weekend!

Thank YOU for the memories!

Greetings!

The Holidays are full of joy...and sometimes they're just plain full!

Here, in the nick of time, are ideas to lessen the frustration in two seasonal areas:
NIFTY GIFT-GIVING IDEAS

giftGift-giving should be fun, yet it can be stressful, too - figuring out...and then finding the time to shop for...what will please each recipient. Here are some helpful hints:

  • Buy a Bundle:  A few smaller "stocking-stuffer" items - whether the pampering variety or just really needed - can solve the problem of trying to think of THE ONE PERFECT GIFT.  And, all the better if each item is wrapped individually and tied all together or arranged in a basket...it adds to the fun of opening.
  • Give a Group Gift:  Instead of stressing over what to give each individual in a family, for instance, give something everyone can enjoy together such as a movie night basket filled with dvds and snacks, an ice cream maker or individually wrapped tickets to a shared activity.
  • Give Something You-nique:  Do you have a yummy dish or baked good, something everyone raves about and asks you for the recipe when you serve it?  How about packaging all the non-perishable ingredients in a basket, or even pre-mixing dry ingredients, along with an autographed copy of the recipe?
TIPS FOR HOLIDAY TRAVELING

Traveling this season?  Isn't everyone?  Add the winter weather factor to the numbers of travellers, and delays - major or minor - are bound to happen.  Be prepared with these tips:

Traveling by Plane

If your flight gets cancelled or extraordinarily delayed...

  • Call the airline customer service number even while standing in line to be re-routed.  You may get taken care of by phone and cut your wait-line short.
  • Realize the poor airline employee dealing with stressed out passengers is probably having a hard day, too.  They will certainly appreciate your kind and sympathetic tone and may even bend over backwards for you as was the case when our children were small, and we waited in line for hours after our flight was cancelled.  The airline employee whispered, "Let me see what I can do," and returned moments later scheduling us on the next flight out even though it was reportedly full.

Before heading out on the road for hours, be sure to

  • Have all the regular maintenance needs tended to and the tank filled
  • Carry an up-to-date emergency kit
  • Stash plenty of snacks, water, blankets, along with a deck of cards or other game.  That way, you'll stay warm, filled and occupied if a major delay has you stopped in your car for hours...as it did recently for my in-laws.
From all of us at California Concierge, we wish you and your family a warm and wonderful Holiday Season.

Remember, we're here to take care of anything that will help you be free to relax and enjoy this special time.  From gift-buying to packing up the decorations and everything in between, whatever you need...just give us a call!
