WOMEN HELPING WOMEN: Closets Lightened;
Hearts Happy

The support for the first California Concierge SUIT DRIVE was enthusiastic!  Women purged their closets with GUSTO, inspired that their nearly-new-but-no-longer-worn business pieces would be going to such a WORTHY CAUSE.  Of course, each donor receives a tax receipt.

Dress For Success Delivery

Our van was Full!

DRESS FOR SUCCESS is a national organization helping disadvantaged women get on the path to success starting with an outfit for a job interview.  California Concierge offered FREE pickup of donated clothing.  On October 9, we delivered suits, separates, shoes, purses and jewelry - OVER 350 ITEMS - to the Los Angeles office of Dress For Success.

Greetings!

Does hosting THANKSGIVING dinner have you stressed and feeling like there's too much on your plate?

Relax...We've got 7 ways to lighten your load!
THANKSGIVING CHEAT SHEET

table settingPreparing for the Big Meal can be stressful, but these tips will help get you out of the kitchen faster, leaving you more time to count your blessings:

1.  DO AHEAD - Consider what dishes you can prepare or partially prepare before.  Even having all the dicing and chopping done is a huge time-saver.  Then you can just mix together or heat up on the day of!  This prevents having to juggle recipes and cooking times, and you'll get the major clean-up done before guests arrive.

(PSST!  If you don't want to do the chopping at all, your supermarket produce section has lots of ready-to-go ingredients, including onions, celery, carrots and broccoli.)

2.  WASH AS YOU GO - Before you even begin the food preparations, fill the sink with hot soapy water.  Every thing you use goes in, and, as you move to the next dish, first wash what you just used.  Dishes left sitting get harder to clean, as well as take up space.  (My personal favorite take on this is to have someone else do the clean-up while I'm preparing the next dish!)

3.  USE THE CASSEROLE DISH AS A MIXING BOWL - That famous green bean delight?  Mix it - and any other dishes, when possible - right in the dish they'll cook in.  This eliminates mixing bowls to clean-up.

4.  WELCOME (even assign!) HELP FROM OTHERS - Most people love bringing their "signature dish" or otherwise contributing to the meal, so let them!  Whatever they bring, whether it's a vegetable dish, a Fall centerpiece, or even just the cranberry sauce, that's less you'll have to do.

turkey5.  BAG IT - Use an oven bag to roast your turkey.  It captures the juices and browns itself in the bag, and it makes clean-up a snap.  No fuss; no muss.

6.  IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE WHOLE TURKEY - If your guest list is small, consider buying a large breast of turkey to cook instead of cooking a whole bird.  This reduces your cooking time even if you cook a couple of breasts, and it also helps reduce the worry over defrosting.

7.  IT'S NOT AGAINST THE RULES! - Who says everything has to be homemade?  pieRemember, Thanksgiving is about giving thanks for our blessings, including the time spent with family and friends.  It's not about slaving in the kitchen.  So, if you're feeling overwhelmed, give yourself a break and order dessert or another dish from your favorite place and pickup the day before.

BONUS TIP: In the days leading up to Thanksgiving, be sure to lighten your refrigerator contents, making room for those yummy leftovers!

REMEMBERING OUR SOLDIERS, OUR HEROES

May I share something with you?

Veterans Day has always been special to me, but now that my niece, an Army captain, is serving in Afghanistan, the war has also become very personal.
Troops praying

This photo, taken in August, shows the group praying together just prior to getting on the plane for their deployment.

My niece's updates of what she sees and her impressions are sometimes heart-wrenching; other times, incredibly uplifting.

Her FOB (Forward Operating Base), though stark, is well-supplied and relatively comfortable comparedForward Operating Base with other locations.

Her duties as a physical therapist took her recently, by helicopter, to soldiers serving 12 months at a remote base lacking

many basics, including

running water.

If you feel inclined to do some kindness for our troops at this time of year, I recommend checking out Operation Gratitude at www.OperationGratitude.com to find how to brighten a soldier's day.  This national organization is based right here in nearby Van Nuys, CA.  Click HERE to view a very touching 60-second video to see what something so simple and easy-to-do can mean. (Be sure your sound is turned up.)

All of us at California Concierge join a grateful nation in saying thank you to the men and women of our armed forces who serve, past and present.  We also acknowledge and appreciate the many sacrifices of their families and friends.
On Veterans Day, please take time to express appreciation in some way to those who served or are serving.  If you'd like help putting together a package to send, during November, California Concierge will volunteer our time to purchase items, pack and ship for you through Operation Gratitude.  The only cost to you is reimbursement for items bought.  Call us today to find out more.

Also, we're here to help make your Thanksgiving holiday - and every day - easier and more enjoyable for you.  From buying the groceries to preparing for guests, whatever you need...just give us a call!

Do what you love, and let California Concierge take care of the rest.

Because life's too short for wasted weekends and missed moments.

Sincerely,

Susan Hamersky
