Greetings!

 All Mothers need a Spa Day - oh, heck, everyone needs a spa day, but what if you don't have the time for that professional pampering?

Pamper yourself at home with these easy ideas.

Relax!  It's easier than you think...

You put in a full day every day.  Rejuvenate in the comfort of your own home:

 * Rub Off Wrinkles:  A face massage not only feels fab but it also relaxes muscle tension.  To do, apply a thin layer of lotion to your face, place your palms against your cheeks and rub in fast up-and-down motions.  Repeat along your forehead.  Next use your index and middle fingers to make circular motions against the sides of your nose and around your mouth.  Finally, press down on the area just under your brows and above the bridge of your nose for three seconds.

* Float away Stress: Taking a bath before hitting the sack can help you snooze better. Add a few drops of bath oil and toss in some flower heads, such as roses and dahlias, and lime slices while the tub is filling. The oils of the buds moisturize skin and the vitamin C-rich fruit acts as an astringent.

* Find "Mist" Opportunities:
Go from dry to dewy in a spritz.  Floral and herbal waters hydrate skin and keep it glowing.  Add 1/8 cup dried lavender and 1/2 teaspoon dried sage to 1 cup boiling water.  Remove from heat, add 25 rose petals (one large flower) and steep for two hours.  Drain the mixture through a coffee filter, then refrigerate in a spray bottle.

cucumber water* Sip Super Water:
 Get your eight glasses a day the spa way by adding five mint leaves and 10 thin cucumber slices to a pitcher of water.  Mint oil helps flush away complexion-dulling toxins, and vitamins A and C in the cukes keep skin healthy.

* Treat your Feet:
 Fill the basin halfway up with warm water, then add a few river rocks ($14.99 for 10 at rubrocks.com).  "Press your soles down on them , or use one to knead away pain caused by running or wearing heels" says Canyon Ranch Spa director. Afterward, paint your toes a calm inspiring spa color like deep blue, green or lavender.
 blue pedicure
*Paint One On:
 Use an artist's fan brush, not your fingers, to apply a face mask.  The bristles lightly exfoliate and help the mask's ingredients to penetrate deeper.  Mash half a banana and combine it with one tablespoon each orange juice and honey.  Apply and rinse after 15 minutes.

*Download to Unwind:
"Songs with a rhythm of about 60 beats per minute mimic your own heartbeat inducing relaxation." says Lawton, a holistic skin care and wellness expert.

MUSINGS ON MOTHERHOOD
From My Heart...

At the time you receive this, I'm coming to the end of a visit with my mother who, at 91, is wonderfully cared for by my sister and her family in Rhode Island.  During my stay, my daughter joined us from college in South Carolina for 4 days
over her birthday weekend, giving me cause to reflect on that day 20 years ago when I became a mother.

Old Cemetery
A quirky interest of ours is exploring old cemeteries.  Really old cemeteries.  And, in this part of the country, there are a lot of them.  In one day, my daughter and I managed to visit 5!

In these cemeteries, something that always pulls at my heart-strings is noticing the number of headstones for children, many of them only infants.  I saw 5 little headstones from one family, dating from the early 1800's...none of the 5 made it past 4 years of age.  As a mother, I thought of the pain of that mother - and all mothers from those times - who lived with the knowledge that, of the children she bore, perhaps, only a few would make it to adulthood.

Although, today, thankfully, our children don't face the diseases and other hardships which cut short their lives in earlier times, a mother's job is still not easy.  It is, however, the most rewarding one I know.
