We are doing things a little different this year and have decided to team up and sponsor  Pond Tour for the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.  There are going to be almost 30 water gardens on display in the Greater Hamilton area!  All sorts of features, some built by Clearwater Ponds others by the home owners, and some natural ponds too.  All features are beautiful and remarkably different.  It will be a great time to get some tips for your water garden or landsape and to chat with other pond owners just like you.  For those of you who are still pondering a water feature this will give you a chance to see many established features in the ground.  The best part is that it is all for a great charity!

For more information please visit our site Pond Tour for the Hospice. I encourage you to read "Debbie's Story", Debbie is the lady backing this entire event and she is doing it all out of love.  We hope to see you on the tour!  Tickets can now be requested through us on our web site.

Rainxchange Property will be featured on Pond Tour

We know many people are excited to know more about the RAINXCHANGE system we are now installing.  It gives you the ability to harvest your rainwater and still have a beautiful water feature to enjoy above ground.  No more of those unsightly rain barrels hanging around your yard!  One of our clients who has  installed the RAINXCHANGE system  will be on the pond tour.  This is a great chance for you to see it in action.
Fun:What Makes a Quality KOI?

One of the biggest reasons many people get a water garden is so they can enjoy having fish as pets. And even when the fish are an afterthought, they quickly take center stage in any water feature. In order to keep a pond naturally balanced, fish are an absolute must. Most pond owners turn to the friendly koi when choosing fish. Because of their bright coloring and graceful movements, koi are actually descendants of the common, not-so-colorful carp.

So what makes a quality koi, a quality koi? The value of quality fish is dependent on several factors. To the discerning eye, quality koi are based on the merits of color, pattern, conformation and size. Although knowing the Japanese language is not necessary for koi keeping, you'll find that variety names, colors, and descriptions often use Japanese terms.

However here is our not so scientific definition of a quality koi:

Anyone
who owns koi will tell you that they have personality, just like your pet cat or dog. Each koi in your pond will be different; not only in color, but also in the way they act. Some will shy away when you approach the side of the pond, while others will approach aggressively, hoping that you have some morsels of food for them.
In this case, a good koi is defined as any koi that will make you and your family smile and relax beside the pond. The only thing important about the color and markings of these koi is that you think they're beautiful.

Koi can be like dogs, where sometimes the mutt at the shelter is the perfect companion as opposed to the pure bred you pay hundreds of dollars to call your own. There will certainly be times when the best koi is not the one with the best pattern or the biggest price tag, but the one who comes to the surface of the pond to let your child feed it by hand. As long as the koi appears healthy and shows no signs of stress, you'll enjoy your pet fish for years to come.

Product of the Month:
ECOBARLEYtm LIQUID EXTRACT

 Fermented Barley Straw Extract
Barley straw has been used for hundreds of years to promote clean clear water conditions in ponds and streams.  Ecobarleytm Liquid Exctract is a pharmaceutical-grade, fermentd barley straw extract that has been concentrated to give you a clean clear pond or pondless waterfall.  The added enzymes will help reduce pond maintenance by breaking down pond sludge and keeping filter pad cleaner.

This product will add a bit of a brown tinge to your water, if added as directed it will be minimal.  The results have been really noticeable.  It is also great to add to the water in the basin of your pondless waterfall.

Hope you all have a great summer, remember to keep sending in those pictures of you and your friends enjoying life pondside!  See you on the tour!

Happy Pondering,
