 Spring 2011

Greetings!

We hope this newsletter finds you in good spirits and welcoming Spring! The Redwood community is made up of individuals, just like you who continue to amaze us with their outstanding support and generosity - thank you for helping hope blossom at The Redwood.

there are so many questions...
that your support allows us to answer.

Lisa fled her abuser when she couldn't handle the violence any longer. As most women do when leaving a relationship, she felt lost, confused, and isolated - however, her recent immigration to Canada left her with no friends or family to turn to.

This is when Lisa found The Redwood.

"I felt loved at The Redwood and it became our home. They shared with me their confidence and hope for the future".

With your help, Lisa found everything she needed...

creating memories in our children's program

Recently, a dedicated volunteer participated in our children's program. After the program, she shared this story with us ...

"Tonight's children's program was quite wondereadingrful!

I was invited to lead story-time. We gathered on the couch - with children all around, and perched behind me playing with my hair.

The children also played musical chairs - with music, dancing, clapping, and a good deal of laughter ...

It was a memorable group experience."

Gimme Shelter broke a record!

Thanks to you, on February 23rd at the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon, we had a record breaking year; the net amount raised at Gimme Shelter 2011 was just shy of $60,000!

We'd like to extend a huge thank you to our Event Committee who dedicated many hours to ensuring a succesful event: Chair Lisa Pearson, Diana Arajs, Sonja Smits, Andrea Weissman-Daniels, Suzie Mukherjee, Ted Geatros, Kim Rapagna, David Simmonds, Courtney Glen, Katie Telford, Erika Mozes and Brynn Lackie.

And special thank you to Shakura S'Aida and her band for the breath-taking performance.

We also send a heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported The Redwood by purchasing tickets and attending the event, as well as our very generous sponsors and event partners.

Thank you for supporting women and children as they begin new lives free from violence - we couldn't do it with out you!
