Fall News 2010
Greetings!

Wow! What an amazing summer. Thanks to your generous support of our Summer Program, moms and kids enjoyed BBQs, birthday parties, picnics in the park and day trips outside of the city!

I encourage you to read on to find out how you make such a difference in the lives of women and children fleeing abuse. As always, if you know of others who would be interested in learning more about us, please pass this on!
Little Mentors make a BIG Impact...

Thanks to your support!
Little Mentors
"No, I don't want to go," shouted three-year-old Michael. While the rest of the kids were gearing up for story time during Summer Book Club, Michael refused to participate.

Achieving what once seemed impossible...
How your support helped us reach a mom and her child

When Linda left China to work in Vancouver she was very excited about all of the opportunities that awaited her in Canada. Her employer was very supportive of her future
career and educational goals, and she enjoyed her new job
very much.

Shortly after her arrival, Linda met Michael....Suddenly she was living a life she never anticipated.
Pitching Tents, DIgging Toilets, Cooking Food...
Redwood Youth attend TROOP Camp!

Youth at The Redwood enjoyed five days in the wilderness this summer, and boy was it fun! We canoed to the campsite, pitched tents, dug our own toilets, and cooked all of our food.

For most of the participants, this was their first time camping. We all had an amazing time working together, exploring the great outdoors and playing. Thanks to you for making this possible!

Edelman Volunteers Transform Courtyard -
Just in time for summer!

Women and children at The Redwood now have a warm,
welcoming and playful outdoor space - all thanks to the hard
work of volunteers from Edelman and The Little Give.

In only 48 hours, Edelman volunteers (working closely with The Redwood) designed and built a family friendly courtyard garden - complete with a comfortable and stylish area for the women to relax - a colourful and creative children's play area with a sand and water table, playhouse and an outdoor art gallery!

Congratulations Liz, and welcome Stephanie!

Please join me in wishing our Donor Relations Coordinator Liz Majic best of luck as she embarks on an exciting new adventure this fall: she'll be following her dream of going to law school, and using her degree to further advance the rights of women and girls in Canada.

On behalf of all of us here at The Redwood, I'd like to thank Liz for all she has contributed to our work to help women and children live free from domestic abuse.

I'm pleased to announce that Stephanie McAulay will be joining The Redwood team as our new Donor Relations Coordinator starting on September 13th, when she'll be available to assist you at smcaulay@theredwood.com or (416) 533-9372 x227. In the meantime, I encourage you to give me a call or drop me a line if you need anything at all - I'm always happy to help!
