Greetings!

Welcome to our March Newsletter!

Thank you once again to all our customers and Time and Leisure readers who voted for us in the 2011 Food Awards. The votes are in and we are delighted to have been nominated in all of the categories. We anticipate the category shortlists to be published any day now and hope that we have made it on to one. Be sure to look out for our March offer in this month's magazine.

We have a packed agenda looking forward to the rest of February and March.

To start, we look forward to welcoming Becka Seymour, joining us full time on Monday 28th February. We are very keen to strengthen our service team and continue to raise service standards providing greater value for our customers. I am also delighted that my partner Charlotte will be joining us full time from Thursday 3rd March. Charlotte has a background in graphic design and marketing and for the last 3 years has been a design consultant at Marks and Spencer head office in the store marketing and packaging design department. She brings a wealth of experience to the table as well as a great eye for detail. I have to say she is the perfect landlady!

We are also continuing to recruit in the kitchen in order to strengthen the team and deal with ever increasing demand. With the extra resource, Head Chef Ryan will have more research time and will continue to develop new ideas for our monthly menu changes.

Our plans to convert the canvas awning area into a permanent structure will be signed off this week and the planning application submitted. We will keep our fingers crossed for a positive outcome and let you know in due course.

During the first week in March, we will be taking down the "CUBA NOTICED" exhibition. We are eternally grateful to Richard Greatrex for the loan of his holiday snaps (!) and unfortunately he now needs them back for another exhibition.

In their place, we are collaborating with William Perkins at Gallery 63A on Park Road and local artists to have a rolling art exhibition. Please bear with us whilst we make the transition. Once the exhibition is in place we will organise a public view with an opportunity to meet the artists, sip on a complimentary glass of fizz and nibble some delicious canapés.

My manager, Toby Ashbee is working on The Canbury Arms App for iPhone and he tells me that by the end of March it should be available from the iTunes App Store for download. There will be loads of useful information including real time offers, forthcoming events, menus, wine lists, drinks lists and much more. I'm not sure that it will make the Times top 500 apps but hopefully it will become popular with our loyal customers.

It's time to start training again for this year's Dragon Boat Race! We are defending three titles this year - Fastest Pub Team, Fastest Ladies Team and Fastest Winning Team Overall. Ladies and Gents crew from last year will be invited back and have first refusal for a place in the boats. If anyone would like to join either crew we can add you to a waiting list and draw lots for any spare places. We will aim to commence training on the first Tuesday following the clocks moving forward giving us the extra light needed for the evening training.

On the topic of sport (golf in particular), I am looking to organise a Canbury Spring meeting either at The Richmond or Coombe Hill Golf Club. If anyone is interested in joining a Canbury Golf Society, please let me know.
