Greetings!

The Kingston Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge is on Sunday 18th July at Canbury Gardens and this year promises to be the most exciting to date.

There are no fewer than 47 crews competing this year and include two from the Territorial Army!

Last year, The Canbury Arms Girl's crew finished a very respectable 15th, ahead of many all male crews and I am delighted to say that there is now a second all girls crew racing this year adding to the excitement! Come and give them a cheer, they will appreciate your support.

The boy's crew last year made the six boat final race and finished in the top three for the second year running. The first three crews finished within a second of each other.

In our crew last year, helping us power into the final and a top three finish was a truly great man, local entrepreneur, husband, father of two and friend of us all at the Canbury - Rupert Spurling.

Sadly, Rupert passed away on Saturday 19th June 2010 aged just 41.

We are all deeply shocked by his very sudden, shocking and tragic passing and accordingly, we have decided to race on this year and hopefully win in Rupert's memory. We have re-aligned our fund raising to the British Heart Foundation according to the wishes of Sue Spurling.

Any donations will be gratefully received at www.justgiving.com/rupertspurling

Your support on the day and for this very worthy cause is very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Michael Pearson
