| | Want to Be a Success? Celebrate Failure!
| Failure is not an option." Gene Kranz, Apollo 13 Unless you're skydiving, tightrope walking, or trying to land a space shuttle, failure IS an option. In fact, the most successful people usually are the ones who have failed the most. Unafraid to take risks, they stumble frequently, but in doing so they learn valuable lessons and improve themselves.
Consider Google. The California-based firm revolutionized Internet search technology and Internet advertising, and it has created a host of innovative tools such as its mapping service (Google Maps), email platform (Gmail), web browser (Google Chrome), and mobile phone operating system (Android). But spectacular successes rarely come without spectacular failures. The company massively misfired with Google Wave, a web application designed to integrate email, social networking, and instant messaging. On August 4th, Google announced its decision to shut down the high-profile project, not even a year after its launch. In explaining the decision, Google CEO Eric Schmidt asserted the company's attitude toward the situation: "We celebrate our failures. This is a company where it's absolutely okay to try something that's very hard, have it not be successful, and take the learning from that."
Celebrating Failure Leaders set the tone for how their people view failure. In particular the stance leaders take toward failure affects an organization's tolerance for risk, openness, creativity, and teamwork. With so much at stake, how can leaders create a culture in which failure is celebrated rather than feared?
1) Encourage Risk-Taking Leaders invite their people to take risks when they entrust them with the authority to make decisions and the responsibility to exercise their own judgments. People who are empowered to act without having to seek the approval of higher-ups may misstep occasionally. Yet, in the long run they'll learn invaluable lessons and gain confidence in their own abilities. For the enitre article, Click Here

 | Handling Objections
Gordon Gilchrist 2020 Group UK
| "It's too expensive... I'm really happy with the people we use. ....We were really looking for a larger practice..... The people we use are only down the road..." Objections like these amongst others, can for many professionals be real stumbling blocks to gaining new clients. There is no doubt that if you are adept at handling objections then you will garner more clients at higher average fees. In this article we will look at; why you should make the effort to learn how to handle objections, what they are and how to identify them early on, and some tried methods to with them. The best objection I ever experienced from a potential client was shouted at me across their reception; 'Accountants, (*&$#%# accountants, I can't stand accountants. Get out!' You might be amazed that about two hours later I left with him as a new client, with all the paper work signed, he stayed with us for around nine years until he retired.
Why should you learn how to handle objections? There is a myth that objections are hostile statements or an opposition to your proposal or idea. In many cases they are actually quite the reverse, representing, in fact, a buying signal. Take, as a simple example, 'I'm sorry but it's just too expensive'. This could and does quite often turn out to mean, 'I would love to use you, it's more than we are currently paying, can you help me with the fee a little'. So 'you're too expensive' is the buying signal. Evidently one reason you must learn how to handle objections is so excellent opportunities are not dismissed before fully forming. Secondly it is undoubtedly true that none of your solutions for clients and potential clients are perfect. There will ALWAYS be one objection or another. |
 | Clash of Security and Social Network Marketing
   | |
Crystal Craven Xcentic, Sept 20, 2010l
Information Security Gurus and Marketing Professionals are often at odds with each other in the business realm. Marketing used to primarily be a print and face to face business function but thanks to the over-haul of standard marketing strategies, marketing has grown new roots on the web and has found itself buried deep within social networking sites like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.
Michael Brooks, Publisher and Creator of the South Magazine states, "It is not a case of whether we will use them [social media sites]; it is how extensively we will and how much time we will invest into each. We look forward to these social medias developing further in order to make this type of outreach more of a science."
The need for businesses to have an online footprint is critical to reach the masses in today's competitive environment, but the potential loss of client data and the security threats it poses to your network are daunting. When the request for access to these social networking sites stem from an authentic business need, where do companies draw the line between marketing savvy and data security?
How do we, the paranoid Information Security folks, establish reasonable rules and boundaries? It seems that everyone within a company- managers and subordinates alike- have multiple social networking accounts. What prevention methods will be used to ensure our company or client's data isn't compromised? Who is going to monitor our company's Facebook account for appropriate business content while assuring client anonymity?
With network security always on the forefront of my mind, my initial thought was to shut it all down, block the popular social networking sites while on our domain. Why allow users to put our network at a higher risk of exposure to phishing attempts, spam and drive-byes from various extracurricular website activities? What happens when your users are home, on their personal computers, posting what they had for breakfast and griping about the daily grind at the office?

We are one week into the fall and our webinar schedule is very close to completion. We have asked a number of technological firms to do webinars on their respective software. This is in response to the number of individuals who requested more information on voice recogntion, portals, cloud computing, workflow and outsourcing, especially bookkeeping. There will also be a number of compliance oriented webinars to keep you up to date on the most recent updates in various areas.
Keeping you up to date on our triathlon exploits, Melanie Latimer (Richard's wife) and I entered the Lakeside Triathlon outside Stratford, along with my daughter Haley. Again we had great results. Haley came in 1st overall for women and Melanie and I came in 1st and 2nd in our age group. A very little training and a lot of encouragement from friends and family go a long way. That's all of the triathlons for this year but plan to enter lots more in 2011.
Sincerely, Peggy Tyers 2020 Canada
