Technology Update Rack2-Filer
|

This software came with our ScanSnap S1500 Deluxe that we purchased in September of this year. We weren't expecting a lot from this $100 add-on software but in the ensuing weeks, were were astounded by its functionality and its ability to organize paper, not only in one's business but in one's personal life as well.
Rack2-Filer (R2F) is an intuitive, extremely easy to use document management system that seamlessly integrates with your ScanSnap. It has rooms, libraries, cabinets and binders with each binder holding 1000 digital pages, each cabinet - 21 binders, each library - 24 cabinets and each room holding 6 libraries. Each room can store 2,500,000 pages and there are 3 rooms! Security, Search Capabilities, Network ready and the interface make it looks like you are dealing with paper, not searching through a forest of Explorer trees.
We have introduced it to a number of people, in accounting and in other businesses, and after seeing what it can do, they really get what R2F can do for them. One happy client says that it has 'transformed' the way she manages her practice and all of the paper in her life

Leadership - Accidental Growth vs Purposeful Growth - John C. Maxwell
|
In 1940 two brothers, Dick and Mac McDonald, started McDonald's
Barbeque Restaurant in San Bernardino, CA. Typical of the drive-ins of
its time, McDonald's offered an expansive menu from which customers
could order and then be serviced by carhops. Through time, the brothers
noticed a trend in their sales. A small number of items on the menu
accounted for a bulk of their restaurant's profits .
Struck by the trend, the brothers embarked on a bold strategy to
streamline McDonald's. They temporarily closed their doors, remodeled
the restaurant, and did away with the carhops. Three months later
McDonald's reopened as a self-service drive-in specializing in fast
service thanks to a simplified, nine-item menu. The combination of low
prices and speedy service made the new McDonald's a smashing success
with motorists, who flocked to the restaurant en masse to buy burgers
and milkshakes.
Accidental Growth
Despite their impressive innovations, the McDonald brothers never
put together a growth plan to spread their concept of fast food across
the country. Over the next few years, the brothers haphazardly agreed
to open a handful of franchised McDonald's. However, the isolated
additions were largely unintended, and they barely scratched the
surface of the restaurant's potential to expand.
Purposeful Growth
It took the genius of a traveling salesman to put McDonald's on the
map nationwide. Ray Kroc became intrigued with McDonald's when the
restaurant ordered eight of his milkshake mixers. Curious why anyone
would need to make so many milkshakes at once, Kroc traveled to San
Bernardino to see the restaurant firsthand.

Top 5 Tips for Generating More Referral Chris Frederiksen, Chairman, 2020 Group
|
The rapidly approaching holiday season presents a perfect
opportunity to actively grow your firm through networking. Be sure to
remind all members of your firm of the importance of referrals and don't be
afraid to ask for them.
Top 5 Tips for Generating More Referrals
1. Collect testimonials. After each meeting with each
client, please remember to ask them for a testimonial which you may use on
websites, brochures, newsletters etc.
2. Never tell clients that you are busy but remind them that business is
great and we're always looking for more.
3. At events don't be afraid to ask for business cards. Make sure you
follow up by sending them a letter introducing the firm and include 2 copies of
your firm brochure. Ask them to pass the extra copy onto someone they
think might need your services.
4. With any correspondence to your clients ALWAYS enclose 2 business cards and
have a "p.s." at the end of the letter that says: "I've included
2 business cards - please feel free to pass them on."
5. Handout "gimmicks" to as many clients and prospects as you
can. The idea of handing these items of notoriety is that you encourage
clients to hand them out to other people or at least show them to
other people when you are not even there. Note pads and coffee cups are
great giveaways. Think of something people use everyday.
And remember it's more important to be different than it is to be better.
Why is your firm different from the competition? Spend 5 minutes at the
next staff meeting to discuss this, but beware: friendly and proactive is not
enough.

Our final Member's Morning of the year in Toronto is coming up next week, Dec. 16, with an HST presentation at the Intuit offices in Mississauga. We hope to see many of you there.
As we wind things down in January, we will be beginning to plan next year's agenda and events. The first Toronto area Focus Group will be held on January 15 with Chris Frederiksen. Our conference will be held on September 16-17 at Hockley Valley Resort just north of Toronto. We have another conference in Winnipeg in June for SME Public Practitioners as well as a series of seminars across the country. Details will follow in the New Year
For those of you who cannot make it out to the HST Seminar, we would like to wish you and your families a very happy holiday season, with the warmth of love and peace in your lives.
Sincerely,
