Portals
2020 Canada has been a strong advocate of multiple monitors for years - at least 2 (or one really big one). Most of our members have made the move and are seeing the advantages of them. (In July, we will be announcing some really cool technology and savings for 2020 Canada members about this area.) The next big drum we will be beating loudly is Portal Technology for your clients so that you are not sending information via e-mail - even through PDFs with encryption and passwords. Portals are secure, easily managed and are appreciated by your clients. Our provider of choice is FileShare, which is also incorporated into CCH SiteBuilder Sharefile stands out due to its interface and high level of
service and support - a winner of the 2008 Webware award from CNET. When you require fast, professional,
secure file hosting and transfer, trust ShareFile to make document and file exchange a snap!
- Create folders to store and share files online with ease
- Use your company logo and colors to custom brand your ShareFile extranet
- Place a ShareFile login box on your company web site
- Invite unlimited clients and partners to your secure file sharing site
- The 128-bit encryption protects your valuable data
- ShareFile is up to twice as fast as FTP
For as little as $30/mth for 5GB of storage and unlimited clients, with a free trial period, we recommend that you contact ShareFile and mention that your are with 2020 Canada. We will be running a webinar on Portal Technology on October 27th if you'd like an in-depth report on this area.

The
Canadian Innovator |
Greetings!
Summer is almost here!
Although you wouldn't know it from the weather we've been having, summer is just around the corner, right after another filing deadline. Take time for a little recreation, golf, boating, camping, getting out to see you local teams play, or spending time in the backyard barbequing with friends and family.
We have lots to be excited about here at 2020 Canada. New services in Mergers and Acquisitions, new Professional Liability Insurance options, and a new marketing consultation offerings as well as many more webinars with a great line-up of speakers from all over Canada, the US and the UK. The 2009 Brochure has been sent out so set aside some time to look through the webinar series which begins on June 9, and plan out your PD schedule for 2009. Hopefully, we've got a few things you'll be interested in.
Our Leadership article this month is on Empowerment.
As always, we have a new inspirational movie for you. As you move through the summer and have just a little more time to think about how to direct your firm ahead, here is a movie to help you out of traditional, linear thought. It is entitled:

Spring Members' Morning
"Sharing the Wealth... of Ideas"Niches in AccountingOn Thursday, May 28, 2020 Canada Members met at the Old Mill for presentations on how to look at niches within your firm and market. Three of our member firms presented their market niches and shared how others could develop niches through good processes.
Richard Latimer of 2020 Canada, started things off with a presentation about the importance of analyzing your business to determine if there are any current niches and their importance, working out a strategic plan to take advantage of niches, how to find and finally how to communicate with them.
The key learning from each of the speakers was that systems and processes are critical in the development of their niche in order to develop it, keep it going make the niche that much more profitable.
Sheldon Rakowski, CA, spoke on his niche of "Coppers" in the GTA and beyond and how systems were necessary to make it all possible to do over 1100 tax returns for his clients over a 63 day period. Norm Orbell, CA, talked about how systems he developed for MacDonald's franchisee owners made him the accountant of choice across Ontario. And finally, Gerry Wilton, CA, CFP told us how specific IT programs helped English & Jones work with Credit Unions across the province and helped solidify that niche for them.
But, in addition to the expertise that systems and processes provide, relationships are still the keystone in the success of any firm. |
We are planning additional Member's Morning Meetings in the fall in Ontario and in Vancouver, BC on Sept. 24.

Leadership - From Class Dunce to World-Class Neurosurgeon - A Story of Empowerment |
Ben Carson vividly remembers a playground conversation during which
his fifth grade schoolmates selected him as the dumbest kid in their
grade. In fact, after some debate, his classmates decided he was
probably the dumbest kid in the world. Looking back from his vantage
point as a world-renowned neurosurgeon, Dr. Carson can laugh at the
memory. However, had he not been empowered as a young student, Ben
Carson may never have shaken the belief that he was stupid.
Leaders Empower Others by Believing in Their Potential
Ben's mother, Sonya Copeland, chose to marry at the age of 13 to
escape an untenable family situation. The marriage eventually
unraveled, leaving Sonya alone in raising her two sons: Ben and Curtis.
Sonya noticed her boys were lagging behind academically, but she was
convinced they had the potential to excel in school.
