Stickies for Windows
|
Stickies is a PC utility written to try to cut down on the number of Post-ItŪ notes you leave stuck to your monitor. It is a
computerised version of those notes.
The design goal behind Stickies is that the program is small and simple.
Stickies will not mess with your system files, or write to the registry.
Stickies stores information in a single text-based ini file.
Stickies will never support animated dancing figures, or play "Greensleeves".
They are instead yellow rectangular windows onto which you can put some text
notes. Once created, they will stay on screen until you take them away. Just

Beginning in November, 2020 Canada will be providing our members with a series of CD presentations developed by Chris Frederiksen and the 2020 Group, The topics include Mergers & Acquisitions, Marketing, Financial Servies, Tax Practice Tips, among several others. These will be sent free to each member office, one every other month through 2009.
We are also in the process of making our webinars available on CDs as well with the audio portion recorded and synchronized with the Powerpoint Presentations. These will be available through the Products section of our website.

ICAO provides positive Opinion Letter on Wealth Management
|
Last week, Paul Tyers, CA., CFP, CIM, received a positive opinion letter from the ICAO regarding the implementation of Wealth Management by CA Firms in Ontario using the system developed by Hahn Investment Stewards. The letter concludes that the organization, structures and remuneration policies detailed in his submission are within all relevant rules of the ICAO and that this business model is permissible for CA firms to implement. Paul spoke at length on this ICAO Update at the 2020 Conference and will be presenting in London on November 5, 2008. He is also presenting a 2020 Webinar on November 20 at 1pm. Charity Initiative
2009 Tax Season
|
At the 2020 Conference, we launched a new charity initiative for Accountants in Canada. Todd and Carrie Jones of TCJones Chartered Accountants Inc. of Port Williams, Nova Scotia, came to us with this idea early in the summer. Based on a similar organization, Chiropractors with Compassion, (Todd's brother is a member of this organization), TCJones donated $10 for every 2007 tax return prepared in their office and donated $4260 to a local charity.
In our initiative, firms can set up their own contribution per return or a lump sum which will be donated half to a local charity of your choice and the other half to 2020's charity of choice Opportunity International . OI provides micro-financing to poor entrepreneurs in Third World countries.
In the next few weeks we will have all of the information on our website with full details and registration info, the charity established in trust, as well as a complete communication package to advise your clients' about this endeavor. It's a great way to help you stand out from the crowd in your community and help charities.

Why the Best Leaders are the Best Leaders

From 1996 to 2007, manager Joe Torre led the New
York Yankees to the playoffs every year - winning an astounding 17 series in
the post-season. Over those same 12 years, the Los Angeles Dodgers did not win
a single playoff series. This past season, Torre departed New York to coach the Dodgers. The result?
The Dodgers won their first post-season series in 20 years, while the Yankees
missed the playoffs altogether.
Ask Yankees and Dodgers fans, and they will tell
you that Joe Torre's leadership matters. However, they may not be able to tell
you exactly why Joe Torre is an excellent leader. What's true of the fans in New York and Los
Angeles is true for many of us. We experience the
effects of leadership without understanding the cause.
In this article, I hope to make plain why the best
leaders are the best leaders. In a nutshell, remarkable leaders give their best
to their people, and get the best from their people. Let's look at how this
happens.

Tough Times Practice Management

All of the economic indicators tell
us that we are in for tough trading times ahead. We think that the
successful firms will be proactive in their approach to these times.
So the 2020 Group UK has prepared two checklists - one for your practice and one for your clients
(with a covering letter from you).
You can choose to send all clients
the checklist as is or tailor appropriately. Download the

Over the next six months, we aim to get
innovative and new guidance to all our Members. Gordon Gilchrist and Chris Frederiksen have
recorded two audio CDs on Tough Times Practice Management and these will be sent
out to all Members during November.

What a weekend at the Nottawasaga Inn and Resort!
Great Speakers on all 3 days, the very talented and touching Terry Kelly on Friday night, the competitive spirits being drawn out on Saturday night during the Callaway Mini-Putt Tournament (Congrats to Carlos Teixiera and Tara Crawford for their fantastic rounds for low Mens' and Ladies' Scoresa fantastic 2-over 38).
There was lots of good information being shared not only by the speakers but between the attendees themselves. We'd like to thank all of the speakers for their hard work as well our sponsors for making it possible and look forward to an even bigger forum next year. "2020 Canada has
recognized that public accounting firms will have to adapt to the "shift" from
the information age to the exponential age. The "shift happens" conference has
provided insight into the services that should be available to our clients and
tools required to provide these services so that we can morph our
