The
Canadian Innovator |
| Greetings!

Wealth Management for CAs to take root in Ontario! Before the recent ICAO Annual General Meeting on June 19, Paul Tyers and Richard Latimer met with the outgoing Chair, Keith Farlinger and the incoming Chair, Gerry Mills to discuss the issue of Wealth Management for CAs. Over breakfast, we spoke on the initiatives of the ICAO to change Rule 216 and how there were ways to work within this rule to provide Wealth Management Counseling to clients but that the Institute did not provide CA's who called the Institute were not given positive or suportive feedback to that implementation.
In Mr. Mills' speech during the AGM, he said,
"We are also going to make an effort to clear up confusion among our members as to what is and is not allowed under Rule 216. Currently, there are firms that have put into place structures that allow them to offer wealth management services in ways that keep them within the parameters laid out by Rule 216.
To help clarify things for our members, the Institute will issue communications on what is and isn't acceptable under Rule 216, likely as a question and answer document on our website and through other communication vehicles."
Following the meeting, Mr. Brian Hunt advised Paul that the Institute would work with him to finalise an approved model.
While it has taken some 7 years to plant the seeds, CAs as a group will be able to reap the benefit of Paul's hard work. 2020 Canada had already planned a Wealth Management Tour in September in 5 centres around the province to present the business model and how to develop this service in your practice. We have also added another full day to our National Conference to focus on Wealth Management Implementation. More on those seminars and the conference next month.
We are presenting another Members' Morning on Moving to Advisory Services as we have the opportunity to have Richard Walters, founder of Harris Walters UK speak on developing advisory services.
As always, we have a new inspirational movie for you. This month it is entitled:

Our website is taking a little longer than planned to bring live but hopefully it will be available in the next week or so. It will have a whole new clean, look and it will be much easier to navigate, to review information as well as sign up for our professional development programs and PD Hour packages.
Sincerely,
Peggy Tyers 2020 Canada
