Think "Green" All Year Long

Green isn't reserved just for the holiday season. Operating in one of the most beautiful places on earth, Pink Jeep Tours does its part to make their company more "green" 365 days a year.

"The reason people come to Sedona is to experience the most beautiful scenery on earth," explains Mike Hermen, Director of Marketing for Pink Jeep Tours.  "Environmental and ecological ethics are essential to our business. Our president, Shawn Wendell, has devoted his entire life to the outdoors, both personally and professionally, and our guides all tend to be hikers, mountain bikers, and nature lovers."

Pink Jeep Tours continuously works on revegetation projects, replacing earth, cleaning up litter and repairs trails damaged by inexperienced drivers and 4 x 4 clubs. The company also reseeds damaged areas with native grasses and plants provided by the USDA Forest Service.

All the Jeep Wranglers are customized and fabricated in their eco-friendly service center. Pink Jeep Tours purchases each Jeep Wrangler new from Chrysler and invests up to $75,000 per vehicle for high tech modifications that enhance safety, eliminate tire spin, and provide advanced control and maneuverability.

The company's maintenance facility uses air-pressurized products in place of aerosol cans and cloths used for spot clean-ups are sent to a "green" facility that captures grease and other contaminants before they cause damage to the environment. A special floor cleaner puts water on the shop floor, scrubs it, and then recaptures the water. All of their used oil, coolants, and other fluids  are recycled as well as paper and plastic products.

Experienced off road guides aid emergency crews

Tour guides for Pink Jeep Tours assisted emergency personnel to a plane crash site north east of Sedona on Schnedbly Hill Road on November 13 after a small plane crashed and burned in the Coconino National Forest.

The crash happened at approximately 5 p.m. five to seven miles from I-17 and about 0.5 miles from the intersection of Schnebly Hill Road and U.S. Forest Road 153A. One Sedona Fire Department fire engine became disabled on the way up the rugged road while trying to get to the crash. Another vehicle sustained a flat tire.

Five highly modified Jeep Wranglers and Pink Jeep Tour guides helped emergency crews get closer to the scene.  The guides assisting were Daniel Wishnewsky, Ree Ruescas, Jen Mekrut, Chris Halstead and Pete Zins.

"I am very proud of the quick actions our team made," said Shawn Wendell, owner, Pink Jeep Tours.  "Our hearts go out to those who lost loved ones."

Mexican Grey WolfAlthough the Mexican Grey Wolf (canus Lupus Baileyi) once roamed from Mexico City north to Utah and Colorado and even into West Texas, now only 50-60 Mexican Grey Wolves populate the Blue Range Wolf recovery area in eastern AZ.  Efforts for recovery started in 1998 with 11 animals and the first wild born litter in 2002.  The only known wild populations are in the US and Mexico.  300 wolves are still in captivity in both the US and Mexico.
