Pink Jeep Tours' R.O.C.K.S. Program

Mike PeachIn January and February, students from three local elementary schools participated in Pink Jeep Tours' complimentary Off-Road Learning Program for Students called R.O.C.K.S. (Reinforcing Our Children's Knowledge of Sedona).

R.O.C.K.S. is a cultural excursion that combines the thrill of an off-road adventure with fun and educational activities that encourage a love of nature and a respect for fragile eco-systems and Native American cliff dwellings. It incorporates interactive learning materials that educate and teach respect for the environment.  Upon completion of the program, each student received a Certificate of Achievement as a Jr. Guide, a planet-protector, and as an all-around Sedona Superstar.

Pink Jeep Tour guides developed this program in conjunction with fourth grade curriculums that includes geology and Native American history. Based on educational fundamentals found in "Sharing Nature with Children" by Joseph Cornell, the tour took the students to the Honanki Heritage Site, a cliff dwelling and rock art site where Sinaguans, ancestors of the Hopi, lived from AD1100 to 1300. The children toured the ruins and play interpretive games with the Pink Jeep Tour guides.
