As of last month we reached over 10,000 members on our IIT Alumni Group on LinkedIn.com, which makes us the most powerful college alumnus group assembled on LinkedIn!  We are adding over 100 members a week through organic growth. If you wish to join, fill out a complete profile including your specific IIT degree and then click to apply for membership. To be part of this group, you must be a graduate of one of the 7 Indian Institutes of Technology.

IIT Alumni among India's most powerful people for 2009
 

IIT Alums on Business week list od Peowerful 50Many IIT alums adorn the BusinessWeek's list of 'India's 50 Most Powerful People 2009'
 
N.R. Narayana Murthy, IIT Kanpur alumnus, carries a  brand as big as his company Infosys. He is a   board member at Harvard, Yale and Stanford.  He will soon be seen as a comic hero, when India's well-known publication Amar Chitra Katha immortalizes him in a forthcoming series on living legends.
 
Duvvuri Subbarao, IIT Kharagpur alumnus, governor of Reserve Bank of India, has overseen the three fiscal stimulus packages the Indian government announced in recent times. 
 
Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala. IIT Madras professor and IIT Kanpur alumnus, Ashok's dream to connect rural India through 200 million telephone and Internet connections lead to the availability of quick and cheap phones - it also won him the Padmashree award in 2002. He is an entrepreneur and founder of seven companies centering around innovations.
 
Vinod Khosla, IIT Delhi alumnus, a co-founder of Sun Microsystems and former partner at Silicon Valley venture company Kleiner Perkins, has been a great source of capital for Indian enterprises. Khosla, claims that "risk is a religion,"
 
Vijay Mahajan, an IIT Delhi alumnus, had a mission to promote rural livelihood of Indians who live on less than $2 a day. Mahajan's knowledge of the farm sector secured him a post with the Planning Commission. He co-authored a book on the rural, non-farm sector in India titled "The Forgotten Sector".
 Is Kosmix Challenging Google?

Serial entrepreneurs, IIT Madras alumni Anand Rajaraman and Venky Narayan have launched their new 'explore engine' venture Kosmix.com , which may be a challenger to Google.

However, the founders say that Google is all about quick searches for information on the web, while their Kosmix is all about exploring a topic of interest.

The three month old company website entices its users with relevant videos, photos, news, commentary, opinion, communities related to the topic.
 
Anand and Venky have a track record of previous successes. Their first company "Junglee", a comparison shopping site sold to Amazon for over $250 million. Their venture capital firm is Cambrian Ventures. Their other venture RightHealth.com, became the No.2 health website in the US in 2007.
MIT Student (IIT Alum) turns Internet into a Sixth Human Sense
Sixth Sense
Pranav Mistry, a researcher at the Media Lab, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and IIT Bombay alumnus, is the mastermind behind the digital prototype called "Sixth Sense".
 
The "Sixth Sense" prototype, patented by MIT, comprises a pocket projector, mirror and web camera bundled in a wearable pendant-like mobile device. The projector can turn anything into a touch screen. The webcam can recognize the movements of a user's hands, which enables gesture-commands.
 
Pranav has been researching at MIT to help him get closer to his childhood dream of melding the flexibility of the digital world with the physical one.

Shantanu for India Vietnam trade 
Shantanu Srivastava, an IIT Kanpur alumnus, was conferred the title of "Friendship Order of Vietnam" by Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet, for his role in promoting India- Vietnam trade. This  brings Srivastava in the league of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi - the only two other Indians that received this award.
 
He was conferred 'Distinguished Alumnus Award' from IIT Kanpur for his contributions. He helped the Indian Embassy set up the office for Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Featured Alumni - Ashok Gupta, IIT-Kharagpur
Ashok Gupta Ashok Gupta is Vice President, India Business Development at Xerox Corporation where he is responsible for managing relationships with major Indian IT companies. He has been with Xerox since 1975 and has handled many executive positions with the company. He initiated and nurtured Xerox's strategic alliance with Samsung Electronics which has grown tremendously in the last 10 years.
 
Ashok graduated from IIT, Kharagpur (Electrical Engineering) in 1970 and completed his M.Tech. (computer Science) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1972. He holds a Master of Science in Business Administration from University of Rochester.He is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt and is working towards achieving the Black Belt status. Ashok's interests include career mentoring & networking which he attributes to his success at Xerox. He is a member of various groups and associations such as the ACT (Asians Coming Together) and is currently the Treasurer for the Pan IIT Alumni Association.
