IIT Alumni Guide

Dear Fellow IIT Alumnus,

You are receiving this newsletter from Pan-IIT because you attended a pan-IIT event in India or the United States. We intend to communicate a few times each year. If you don't want to be contacted, or if you wish to change your contact information, please see the instructions at the bottom.

Introducing "Linked-In" Group for IIT Alumni
IIT Alumni Logo

Do you need to connect to other IIT Alumni for professional reasons? Could your company or organization benefit by hiring more alumni from the IITs? Are you thinking about a job or career change? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you might want to join the IIT Alumni group on LinkedIn by clicking here.

LinkedIn is an online, professional-oriented networking service that strengthens and extends your existing network of trusted contacts. Using the service you can find past and present colleagues and batchmates quickly. Over 30,000 IIT Alumni are already registered on LinkedIn. For third-party opinions on the value of free LinkedIn services read About.com and Guy Kawasaki ,former Apple Computer Evangelist.

We intend to create a permission-based network to empower IIT Alumni who wish to interconnect with other alumni to do so. A survey among the first 100 alumni members of the IIT Alumni group on LinkedIn revealed that the top reason to join was to connect with fellow Alumni. (Of course Linked In will let you connect with 15 million other members, half of which are based outside the United States and a good chunk are in India). The same survey revealed that our early members preferred LinkedIn over the nearest rivals Plaxo and Facebook by a huge margin. Today, Carnegie-Mellon University has the largest alumni network on LinkedIn. We think that the IIT Network can be more vibrant and larger still.

Madras Campus to Host Pan-IIT 2008
Mark your calendar for December 19-21, 2008 and the city of Chennai. The next mega-event will be held on the IIT Madras campus 13 months from now. Details will be announced later but an executive committee chaired by B. Santhanam  is already at work on the theme of the conference, Inspire, Innovate and Transform.

YouTube Channel for IIT Alumni

While IIT Students have posted hundreds of video clips on YouTube, we thought it might be interesting to highlight some clips of special interest to IIT Alumni. So we have created an informal "channel" to explore this need,
http://www.youtube.com/iitalum

Take a look at Arun (Kharagpur) Sarin's speech at IIT2007 and other clips. If this channel motivates you and you wish to volunteer to help make it better, send email with the subject line youtube to iitalum1@gmail.com. Better if you post one or two videos of special interest to alumni (no campus videos needed at this point).

We welcome ideas on how to improve this newsletter. Services on iit.org and on this newsletter are intended to benefit IIT Alumni worldwide regardless of their country of residence or the IIT that they graduated from.

Sincerely,
