 Eight Recognized by National Merit Program
 

Mazal tov to eight ICJA seniors who were recognized by the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program. Shayna Otis, Sara Goldberger and Eric Silberman are National Merit Semi-Finalists. Talia Alter, Jacob Lewis, Sarina Miller, Natan Rosenberg and Netanela Weiss-Faratci are all Commended Students. We are so proud of you!

 


 Twelve Students Pass Jerusalem Exam
 

Congratulations to 12 recent Academy graduates who passed the prestigious Jerusalem Exam from Hebrew University. Results were just released from the exam, and all the Academy students who took the test passed, including: Elana Goldberg, Yael Gluck, Kenneth Dvorin, Rachel Daniels, Josh Lowenstein, Rebecca Lis, Moshe Matanky, Donny Silberman, Leora Perlow, Noam Zuckerman, Rachel Kirshenbaum and Michelle Kaplan.

Very few students in the U.S. are able to prepare and participate in the exam. Academy students have taken the test for over 30 years.

 


 Seniors Attend JUF Meeting
 

seniors While the boys were already loaded on the bus, senior girls paused for a photo before heading downtown to the JUF/JF Annual Meeting. ICJA seniors attend the meeting and luncheon annually to demonstrate the Academy's support for Federation.

 


 Obama Mentions Ida Crown
 

Following a conference call with Democratic Presidential Candidate, Barack Obama, and 900 U.S. rabbis, a rabbi on the call told the JTA, "Obama showed an impressive 'depth of knowledge' -- at one point referring to the largest modern Orthodox high school in Chicago by name, the Ida Crown Academy, when discussing faith-based schools."

 Seniors Bake Cookies
 

cookies Senior girls from Mrs. Jaffe's Advanced Jewish Studies Program baked cookies for residents of Park Plaza in honor of Rosh Hashanah. The class was doing a unit on honoring the elderly.
