Asher Essay Contest
The Associated Talmud Torahs of Chicago is
once again conducting the ASHER ESSAY
CONTEST. A $200.00 will be awarded for the
first prize on the high school level, and
runners-up will be acknowledged.
All submissions must include the first
name, last name, address, grade and school,
and must be completed by the fourth week of
January, 2009. Length of essay is unimportant.
Each contestant either must submit an essay
on some modern problem and show how our
sacred texts deal with the problem (e.g.,
"Zero Population Growth," "Environment,"
"Mercy Killings," "The Sanctity of
Marriage," etc., etc.) or explain a difficult
passage within the text (e.g., "Why Didn't
Yosef Inform His Father of His Presence in
Egypt?" "Did Rebecca and Jacob Lie to
Yitzchok in Order to Receive the Bracha?") or
write on some Jewish theme of
interest.
