Yes, it has been awhile since you last heard from Variety. And yes...we do know it is technically December and this is the November newsletter. But, it is because we have been so busy putting your dollars and support to good use. Since you last heard from us in late August, Variety has: - Sent over 300 deserving North Texas children to see the Rangers (THE WORLD SERIES RANGERS) take on the New York Yankees in what proved to be a playoff preview on September 11. - Sent over 300 Houston area children to see the Houston Astros in action on September 11. - Sent another 300 Houston area children to see them in action on September 13. - Presented an adaptive bike to a Houston area child at Houston's Abilities Expo, presented two more bikes in Lake Worth at the opening of a Starplex Cinema and presented other equipment/services to no less than six more children. - Hosted a golf tournament (more below).
We also created a whole new program with the support of Grant Thornton called A Carnival of Characters. Just prior to the start of school, Variety and Grant Thornton welcomed over 150 disadvantaged and underprivileged youth with an afternoon of carnival style food, midway style games and the chance to meet no less than 15 of their favorite costumed characters.

A Radio DJ, Golfers, Steve Holmes and Variety's Kids Make a Great Combination
Variety's friends, supporters and friends of Starplex Cinema's CEO, Steve Holmes, came out in force to show their support of Variety and our 8th Annual Texan of the Year himself.
Together, we raised over $226k in support of Variety's programs across the state of Texas. Visit our tournament wrap-up site for links to photos, videos and more from the event, including an opportunity to see CBS radio and television personality Jody Dean meet a child he helped support, talk about why he loves Variety and why he thinks Variety's Executive Director is a " rat." |

Our 75th Anniversary
Variety in the state of Texas turns 75 years old in 2011. While Variety began operations in 1935, we were not officially recognized as a charitable organization, and part of Variety International, until 1936. Be on the lookout for ways Variety is honoring our birthday, and ways that you can honor it.
Details and planning are still going on, but you can rest assured that they we will be taking the time to reflect on our past, continue working in the present and look forward to the future.
