An Anonymous Thank You to an Anonymous Donor |
Recently, Variety was given one of the most heartfelt gifts a charity can ever receive. As our Executive Director, Lance Hood, states, "I've been involved with the non-profit community for more than 17 years now. In that time, I've never been the recipient of a gift like this."
What is he talking about? A cash donation to Variety.
But, it is not what the gift was that made it unique. It is the story that goes along with the donation.
An individual recently visited Variety's office with a donation of nearly $1,600 is cash. Not unique on the surface.
The fact that the donor chose not to give his name, and he did not want a tax receipt for the donation, is unique, however.
His very brief time in the office (less than 10 minutes) was capped off with the following statement, "I used to be a selfish man. And, I don't want to be selfish any longer. I found your charity recently, and I know you will do good things with it."
Variety hopes Mr. X, as we affectionately calling him, is on this list. Because, we want to thank him, and let him know that the money is now partially paying for a dental procedure for a 17 year old in Anna, a seating system for a toddler in Cedar Hill and an adaptive bed for a 16 year old in Dallas.
