Variety is pleased have Johnson Abbotts International as Variety's first ever "Statewide" Presenting Sponsor of our Bikes for Kids program. A long time supporter of this program, Johnson Abbotts became our first ever Presenting Sponsor three years ago for the North Texas area, and has held onto the position every since.

| Double Down for Variety |
| Have you ever asked yourself, "How can I make my donation stretch further?" Variety now has an answer.
But, what does it mean for Variety, and more importantly for you as a Variety supporter? It means the possibility of doubling your donation of $25 or more to Variety made on May 20th.
On May 20th, starting at 12:01am, online donations via a credit card (which will be processed through Communities Foundation of Texas) will be matched in the amount of $1 for every $1 donated through the DonorBridge system.
A minimum of $200,000 has been made available for this event with a minimum donation of $25, and a maximum donation of $2,500 per individual with a total maximum match per charity of $25,000.
Please consider making a gift to Variety on this day.
If you do not want to stay up that late, let us know. Variety will gladly work with you on the handling of your donation prior to the event to ensure that you are included in this wonderful opportunity.

| 13th Annual Bikes for Kids Goes Statewide |
Over the past twelve years, Variety has put smiles on the faces of more than 1,350 children from across North Texas through our annual Bikes for Kids program.
Selected children, and their families, not only get a bicycle, helmet, lock and chain of their very own, but they are also treated to a screening of a first-run, family friendly film.
Variety is pleased to announce the expansion of this program to locations across the state of Texas this year. With the support of our statewide presenting sponsor, Johnson Abbotts International, Variety will be hosting no less than 5 such events across the state.
This is where you come in. For a donation of $100, you can put a smile on the face of a deserving child through the first event Texas-wide Bikes for Kids. And, if you donate on May 20th through the system mentioned in the opening story of this newsletter, your one bike could easily become two bikes.
We encourage you to look over past photos, and videos, from this wonderful event to see the smiles for yourself.

| Variety Honored for an Outstanding Year |
Since 1985, Variety the Children's Charity of Texas (then known as Variety the Children's Charity of North) has been honored with the prestigious Variety Heart Award on two occassions. We were honored with a Bronze Award in 1993 and a Gold Award in 1998.
1998 represented the last year that Variety of Texas had been nominated for the prestigious award until last year. We were very pleased to once again be a finalist this year at Variety's recent International Convetion.
While we did not win the award this year, we are hopeful that the third time is a charm as we are well on our way to being recognized as a finalist for our current activity.
We would like to congratulate:
- Gold Heart Winner: Iowa
- Silver Heart Winner: Buffalo
- Bronze Heart Winner: South Australia (last year's Gold recipient)
- Other Finalists: British Columbia (last year's Bronze recipient), Eastern Tennessee, Georgia, Great Britian, Manitoba, Philadelphia, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and of course, ourselves.
As the saying goes, "It was a privilege to be nominated." |
| Congratulations Again & Thank You to Rave Motion Pictures |
|
As previously announced in March, Rave Motion Pictures was honored at Variety's recent International Conference as one eight Corporate Award Winners from across the globe for their support of Variety the Children's Charity of Texas and other Variety programs around the country for their support in our '07-'08 Fiscal Year.
One of the primary reasons for this award was their outstanding efforts in regards to Variety's annual Gold Hearts program. In 2008, Rave raised over $130,000 through the distribution of Variety's Gold Hearts in their 26 theatres. That represented an average of more than $5,000 per theatre (a nation wide best) which was an increase of more than $2,350 per theatre from the previous year. Variety is pleased to announce that Rave was able to match their outstanding contribution this year. While the per theatre average slipped slightly with their now 28 theatres averaging just over $4,650, they once again came in at more than $130,000. This money will be used by Variety programs across the United States to support: families with special needs children, summer camps, after-school programs, hospitals, the development of Variety's Equestrain Center in Temple and much more.
