| Supporting Ike's Younger Evacuees |
We have all seen the devastation caused by the storm. We have all read the reports of the damage.
But, what about the youngest of Hurricane Ike's evacuees? Variety was pleased to work with the Dallas Area Salvation Army and Red Cross to ensure that the children staying in the Dallas Convention Center's storm shelter had something to do other than think about how their lives may be changing.
With assistance from Rave Motion Pictures, Moroch, Sony Pictures Releasing and our own "emergency" supplies, Variety was able to provide over $1,000 worth of toys, board games, books and other items for the children's area of the shelter.
Variety's Executive Director, Lance Hood, stated, "It was such a joy to see the sincere appreciation from the parents and children at the shelter. Many of the individuals I spoke with were only allowed to bring essentials on the trip to Dallas. As a former resident of Galveston Island, I know how many of the children live day to day. Many of the items we presented will be cherished for years to come." |
