The meeting starts at 6:00PM with pizza and conversation. Meetings usually end by 7:00PM. The meetings are generally held on the first Wednesday of every month, but always check the monthly calendar (at right) in case the schedule has changed. The Payton community is always in need of volunteers. There are lots of ways, big and small, for parents and guardians to support our school throughout the year.
Whatever your area of interest, your talent, your profession, or your hobby, Payton and its students will benefit by even a small commitment of your time. Volunteering is a great way to meet other Payton families and get to know the students your Grizzly is hanging out with.
We'll use the website, newsletter, and other ways to share opportunities to support Payton throughout the year.
Email Katie Merrell at fopcommunications@gmail.com if you can't wait until fall to get started on something!

two more ways to
to stay current
| |
Check the school website periodically (some people set a reminder on their calendars to do this once or twice a week) at www.wpcp.org. Look for the news column in the bottom left of the home page.
Another way to keep up on what's happening at school is to check this web page for the text of the announcements made daily during the advisory periods.
You can also subscribe to receive the announcements via email or RSS.

FOP FUNDS BENEFIT ALL STUDENTS
2011-2012 Financial Report Friends of Payton is pleased to report another successful year. Thanks to the hard work by Joni Santini, this past year's Fundraising Chair, and all the other Payton community members who helped with fundraising, we were able to fund all of the school's budgeted requests as well as the numerous items FOP pays for annually. Each year Payton's needs are reviewed by the school's internal Leadership Team and, after careful consideration, are presented to FOP for funding. The FOP Board usually approves all requests made in this manner.
We look forward to another successful fundraising year under the leadership of Cathy Nardi, the new Fundraising Chair. The school appreciates the generosity of all our donors, large and small. If you wish to discuss a donation or would like to know more about the school's needs please feel free to contact Casey Hoogstraten at FOPpresident@gmail.com, or Cathy Nardi at FOPfundraising@gmail.com. |
NEXT MEETING ON AUGUST 20
Local School Council Report The LSC met on July 11. Nominations and selection of officers for the 2012-2013 year were made. Cheryl Watson-Lowry was elected Chairperson, Kaarina Salovaara was elected Vice Chair, Jeanne Lamar was elected Secretary, and Gaute Grindheim was elected Freedom of Information Act/Open Meetings Act Officer. The LSC set the dates for this year's monthly meetings as follows: Aug. 20, Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Nov. 5, Dec. 10, Jan. 14, Feb. 11, Mar. 11, Apr. 8, May 13, and June 10. Meetings will be held in the Payton Library and will begin at 6:00PM. Parents, guardians and students are encouraged to attend. Mr. Devine (Principal) reviewed the school's Budget and Internal Accounts, and the SGSA funding for the upcoming school year, noting that Payton will begin the year in a financially healthy state. The search for a new Assistant Principal is underway as Mr. D'Andre Weaver resigned his position to become Acting Principal of Brooks College Prep. Other faculty changes include the retirement of Social Studies Chair, Ms. Adria Mitchell. Mike Baldwin has been hired as the new Social Studies Chair. Mr. Baldwin, formerly a teacher at Westinghouse College Prep, will teach World Studies and will partner with Ms. Chuu in teaching AP U.S. History. Ms. Marylin Havlik (Science) has retired and Valentine Torres has joined the Science faculty. Mr. Torres will teach AP Biology and Honors Biology. Maggie Kendall has assumed a new position at Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences and the search for her replacement is ongoing. Art teacher Lisa Terrazas will be on maternity leave in the beginning of the school year. Devin Picard, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, has been hired to teach in the Art Department during this period. Freshmen Connections began on Monday, July 9 and continues through Aug. 3. Participation is again strong, with 191 of the 213 incoming freshmen attending the program. Mr. Devine reported that very light construction work is being performed over the summer and was pleased to announce that solar panels have been installed in the southwest corner of the building. The panels are generating power sufficient to run one classroom. Please join us at the next LSC meeting on Aug. 20, at 6:00PM in the Library. |
