Everolimus Plus Octreotide-LAR Trial Published
The Lancet just published the findings of the RADIANT-2 trial, a Novartis-sponsored phase 3 study of everolimus plus octreotide LAR. 429 patients with low- or intermediate-grade, advanced, well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors of varied origins with carcinoid syndrome from 16 countries participated in this randomized, double-blind study. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival.
The authors found that median progression-free survival was greater among patients who received everolimus and octreotide LAR rather than octreotide LAR and placebo. The most common side effects were mouth sores, rash, fatigue, and diarrhea.
The authors also note the need to confirm the efficacy of everolimus in future studies. Their analysis highlights some challenges in designing and interpreting clinical trials among neuroendocrine tumor patients. Please see full article for details or call CFCF at 617.948.2514 to discuss.
Any patients considering this or any other potential treatment should consult with a physician well-versed in treating neuroendocrine tumor patients. Experienced clinicians are necessary to understand the best timing and duration of therapy with everolimus or other potential treatments. Please consult CFCF's Doctor Database or call 617.948.2514 for help finding an experienced clinician.

Spotlight on Team CFCF: Nastasya Woodcock
This week, we are celebrating the amazing achievements of 11 year-old Nastasya Woodcock.
After her mom was diagnosed with carcinoid cancer, Nastasya decided to stand up for a cause close to her heart.
"I wanted to help people by making money for research and raising more awareness," Nastasya says. So she set off on her own to organize a bake sale at her school. She took care of all of the logistics with the help of her friends, and pulled off the most successful bake sale in the school's history!
Nastasya took a break from performing in the Boston Ballet's production of The Nutcracker to share her inspirational experience with the neuroendocrine cancer community.
