Team CFCF profile: Chicago marathoner Kari Jones
The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation would like to extend its appreciation and admiration to carcinoid survivor and Team CFCF marathoner Kari Jones. Diagnosed with carcinoid cancer in 2006, Kari has been a beacon of support and a true inspiration to anyone battling cancer. Accompanied by her brother (and veteran Team CFCF runner) Josh, Kari will be running her first ever marathon in this year's Chicago Marathon! Kari declares "I'm feeling better than I've felt in years and know that my carcinoid is not going to stop me from reaching this goal."
Help Kari reach her goal of raising $1595 for the Chicago Marathon; if Kari reaches this target she will have raised $10,000 for CFCF since 2006! Click here to help Kari reach her goal . Click here to read more about Kari and her story.

UCLA Study Finds Pancreatic Tumor Cells Feed on Fructose
Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Cancer Center led by Dr. Anthony Heaney found that pancreatic cancer cells use fructose to divide and proliferate. These findings challenge the common understanding that all sugars are the same. While tumor cells thrive on sugar in general, the UCLA research team found that fructose and glucose are metabolized differently.
Results of this study indicate that efforts to reduce refined fructose intake may disrupt cancer growth. The UCLA Cancer Center research team hopes to develop a drug to stop tumor cells from making use of fructose. To learn more about this study, click here. For help finding a doctor to discuss these finding with please visit CFCF's Doctor Database or call 617-848-3977. |
