CFCF Founder and Carcinoid Survivor Nancy Lindholm Featured in March Issue of SELF Magazine!
Nancy O'HaganIn the March 2010 issue of SELF Magazine, the article "Becoming your own best hope" profiles the lives of three courageous women diagnosed with orphan cancers.

Like many patients diagnosed with rare cancers, these women faced uncertain futures and discouraging prognoses. In the article, Nancy shares details about her journey as a carcinoid cancer patient and her reasons for starting the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation. Click here to read the full story.
Managing Carcinoid Cancer Symptoms with Nutrition
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) has released a set of recommendations for patients living with carcinoid and related neuroendocrine cancers.

In managing the symptoms associated with these cancers, DFCI recommends eating healthy foods high in protein and calories. Click here to view these guidelines and learn more about how to manage carcinoid symptoms with nutrition.
Y-90 to Treat Symptomatic Carcinoid Patients
researchA new study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology found Y-90 to be effective in improving symptoms associated with malignant carcinoid among subjects with no treatment alternatives.

The study, "90Y-Edotreotide for Metastatic Carcinoid Refractory to Octreotide," which enrolled 90 patients, suggests that carcinoid patients that are refractory to octreotide therapy could benefit from Y-90, experiencing reduced symptoms as well as an acceptable adverse event profile. Click here to read the full article.
Brief Survey for Carcinoid and Neuroendocrine Tumor Patients
The Singapore support group, Carcinoid & Neuroendocrine Tumor Society, has created a poll to measure NET misdiagnosis.

The question asked in the poll is simple: "From symptom onset until NET diagnosis, were you misdiagnosed as having IBS, Chrohn's or another gastric disorder?" The poll does not require personal information, asks only a single question and all the data gathered in the poll belongs to the community. To participate in this survey and see responses from your fellow patients, click here.
