Breaking News
Author, carcinoid survivor and CFCF Director, Carrie Host, recently submitted a letter to the editor of the New York Times, expressing her reaction to their recent article on palliative care, which featured a carcinoid patient's struggle.
Carrie is the author of " Between Me and the River," a candid and uplifting memoir of how she found the strength and fortitude to triumph over a rare form of cancer, and craft a new and meaningful life. Dear Editor, As a patient with carcinoid tumors, "Months to Live" struck a chord with me, as it touched upon an issue so many of us living with cancer are afraid to look at, the specter of death. That Dr. O´Mahoney and others like him are pursuing the field of palliative care brings great comfort to me as I face the uncertainty of living with an incurable cancer. Death is something most people have the luxury of thinking about "later." But for anyone who has had to have a conversation like the one described in the article, "later" comes sooner, and we need more doctors like Dr. O'Mahoney to help us continue to find meaning in our lives. I applaud him for his ability to courageously hold the lamp for his patients as he helps them make this difficult transition.
