Breaking News in Carcinoid and NET Research
medical symbolOral presentation on Sandostatin® LAR® Phase III data shows significant antitumor benefit in patients with advanced neuroendocrine tumors of the midgut. To read more about the results from the placebo controlled phase III trial (PROMID) click here.

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology for NETs have been updated to include octreotide therapy as a new management option for asymptomatic patients with recurrent, unresectable carcinoid tumors as a category 2A recommendation. This addition is based on recently published interim results of PROMID. For more information, click here.

North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (NANETS) released a statement in response to questions regarding VEGF inhibitors. NANETS physicians acknowledge the ability of angiogenesis inhibitors to slow tumor growth and improve survival in patients with several different types of metastatic cancer. The University of Texas conducting a clinical trial to test the ability of whole-body fever-range thermal therapy safely treat cancer cells wherever they are throughout the entire body. The study is testing the combination of fever-range heat treatment and chemotherapy to see if it improves cancer response compared to the effect of only chemotherapy drugs in current use; if the thermochemo-therapy helps the person's own body fight the cancer cells; and if this treatment is safe and comfortable for the patient. Springtime Success!
The results are in! This spring Team CFCF members raised nearly $20,000 in the Country Music Marathon and the Breezy Point Triathlon. We are grateful for the generosity and hard work of all participants; both events were successful in raising funds for carcinoid awareness and research!

Chicago Marathon: October 11, 2009 (Chicago, IL)

Join Team CFCF as we run to a cure for the third year in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.  This year, CFCF will dedicate the race to Eva Donoghue and Kari Jones for all they have done to build Team CFCF's Chicago Marathon Community.  They have become critical to Team CFCF bringing their friends, family and supporters to run, cheer and have a great time.  Thank you Eva and Kari!

Marine Corps Marathon: October 25, 2009 (Washington, D.C.)

Join Team CFCF in "The People's Marathon" as we run for research.  This scenic course is also known as "The Marathon of the Monuments," and runs through the nation's capital.
