Breaking News for Pancreatic Net Patients
|
|
CFCF-funded researcher, Dr Matthew Kulke, reports in "Clinical Cancer Research" that MGMT deficiency may correlate with treatment response to temozolomide-based therapy for pancreatic NET patients.
MGMT
is a DNA repair enzyme that is often overexpressed in certain cancers.
In this study, Dr. Kulke and his team report that pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors which were
deficient in MGMT were sensitive to temozolomide-based therapy.
To contact Dr Kulke, please click here. To read the article from "Clinical Cancer Research" click here. To learn more about this treatment option, contact CFCF.
CFCF is proud to announce the results of this study since it highlights the strides that CFCF-funded researchers are making to provide patients with personalized medicine. These researchers are identifying each patient's specific characteristics to determine the most effective treatment course.

More Breaking News for Pancreatic NET Patients
|
|
Researchers report 6-month progression-free survival rate almost double historical control in a phase II trial of metastatic pancreatic NET patients.
At the 2009 Gastrointestinal Cancer Symposium, researchers announced their findings from "A phase II trial of daily oral RAD001 (everolimus) in patients with metastatic pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) after failure of cytotoxic chemotherapy." This two arm study evaluated treatment with RAD001 in metastatic pancreatic NETS both with and without depot octreotide therapy.
Lead author James Yao, MD, Associate Professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, writes, "Progression-free survival at 6 months was more than double the rate of
historical controls," and also that "Durable objective
responses and stable disease were observed in both arms of the study."
