Mr. Osborne played drums behind Mel Torme 25 years and right here with Barbara Lusch, Karen Maria Capo & Pete Petersen. He likes to eat salmon and is one swell guy.
|
Meet Gary & Ruthie
|
 |
Possibly the two nicest folks on Earth. Gary plays drums and sings at our Dixieland Jam and whenever else someone lets him! Ruthie is a living doll who makes new friends everytime she's here.

Meet Rebecca
|
 |
She makes the finest drinks this side of the Mississippi. I know because I've had 8,453 of them.
|
Meet Mayanna

 |
Rebecca is her mommy. Mayanna's probably the prettiest girl in all of Oregon. She can't wait until we start doing shows for kids. Summer 2008 her dream will come true!!

| TONY STARLIGHT'S October 2007 Newsletter |
Dearly Beloved,
September was a stone cold gasser. (That's slang for "jolly good.") Deja Nu sold out the joint, we met Barbara Lusch and we got along famously, Karen Maria Capo thrilled folks with her Billie Holiday tribute, Angela turned 50, we wished well to Reece Marshburn and welcomed Craig Bidondo.
October promises to be stonier, colder and gassier. Would you believe jollier and gooder? You get the idea. We've entered the Hollywood Burger Battle. We're updating our menu. We've got the best entertainment line-up to date. New faces include Maryann Nicholas, Karla Harris, Triple Scmaltz and Lavonna Zeller-Williams. Barbara Lusch and Baby James pay us a second visit. Favorites Ayars Times Two, Karen Maria Capo, Shelly Rudolph, Midnight Serenaders, Devin Phillips, and The Bureau of Standards Big Band continue to please.
We've got two Halloween events this month, in addition to our Vintage Fashion Show which will focus on vintage costume ideas!
Finally, don't miss my Saturday night show. We've got some new material for you to savor. Also, my AM GOLD band will be featured twice this month, pumping out the smoooooth hits of the 70s, with 10 new songs!
Your pal,
Tony

Cover Charges
We are often asked about cover charges. "Do I have to pay a cover charge if I'm having dinner?" and the like. It may be helpful to think of the cover charge as a ticket. The way that the musician's get paid is through the cover charge, and the way that our restaurant "gets paid" is by what you eat and drink. We do not artificially inflate our prices during music and we do not underwrite our music program with video poker machines. Every dollar you pay at the door finds it's way into the pocket of a local artist! There is no more direct way of supporting the arts than to gleefully pay the cover. When you pay a $5 cover for four musicians on a Wednesday night, you are paying each person $1.25 to entertain you for three hours. I don't know where else you can find such value. A ticket to the movies in nearly $10. Theater, concert, Trailblazer tickets all dwarf this. Besides, our food and drinks are miles better than these places and our staff is much friendlier and more attentive. And your money stays in the community. You are getting great bang for your buck.
I hope this is informative. Thanks for your continued support.

"The Autumn drinks pass by my larnyx..."

Several new items will find a place on our food and drink menu this month. Liberace's Lasagne, Tony Bennett's Chicken Parmesan just to name a few. Don't be a square, try something new next time!
|
Bring It!
We have entered, and intend to win the Hollywood Burger Battle. Ten Restaurants have entered, but only one will be crowned champion. I have personally eaten 37 burgers this past month, not only to size up the competition, but to make sure our burger is the best. I have no doubt.
Visit hollywoodboosters.com for details. You can win prizes, like a night at Skamania Lodge for your troubles!

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 3 BARBARA LUSCH 8 PM $5 An elegant singer, Barbara made her debut here last month. She was so well received we asked her back. THURSDAY OCTOBER 4 SHELLY RUDOLPH WITH DEVIN PHILLIPS & RON STEEN 8 PM $8 Shelly's voice is sultry yet powerful and is complemented perfectly by the deep tenor sax of Devin Phillips. FRIDAY OCTOBER 5 MIDNIGHT SERENADERS 8 PM $8 Their debut CD Magnolia, released right here at Tony Starlight's June 25th, is more than swell, it's fine! These folks are on of our favorites and they are the absolute best at good old 20s and 30s style jazz. Their sound is made truly unique by the sound of the slide steel guitar. They look and sound like a million bucks. website

We have all manner of new material for you to enjoy, thanks to our new musical director Craig Bidondo. You will laugh, you will cry, you could win something really nice or be forced to take home a worthless hunk of junk. Mr. S will DJ from his extensive CD collection while we Bingo from 8 - 11. DRINK - LAUGH - WIN TUESDAY OCTOBER 9 AYARS TIMES TWO 7:30 $3 If you haven't been in to see them yet, I don't know what's wrong with you. You must be impaired in someway. Luckily, Ayars Times Two can cure this. Read: Bo Ayars is a master pianist who has worked with many of the greats. Elvis Presley, Barbra Streisand, Jim Nabors, Bob Hope and 13 years conducting and writing arrangements for Mr. Showmanship, Liberace. He has performed for two Presidents. There are few who can boast of having worked with the talent Mr. Ayars has. Barbara Ayars is my favorite singer. She has sung with Steve and Eydie, Diahann Carroll, Esquivel and appeared on "The Tonight Show", "The Merv Griffin Show" and "The Dinah Shore Show." We are lucky enough to be the home of Barbara's return to singing and performing. website
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 10 MARYANN NICHOLAS 8 PM $10 One of my favorite people is finally gracing us with her own show, "Window To My Soul." She has assembled a fantastic band and will be taking us on a musical journey through a very interesting life. Dinner seats are already sold out, but you may join us at the bar for this very special night.
THURSDAY OCTOBER 11 TONY STARLIGHT'S AM GOLD 70s NIGHT 8 pm $7 The debut of this show was one of the greatest nights we've ever had. There will be special guest appearances by some of my favorite singers.
FRIDAY OCTOBER 12 DEVIN PHILLIPS & NEW ORLEANS STRAIGHT AHEAD 8 PM $12 This is the night for the serious Jazz fan. Devin, a New Orleans transplant, is now one of the Rose City's coolest sax players. He's been here thrice with Shelly Rudolph, but for the second time he will be leading his own band with that unmistakable, straight ahead New Orleans sound. Don't miss out. website

TUESDAY OCTOBER 16 KARLA HARRIS & CRAIG BIDONDO 7:30 $3 I was doing paperwork in my office during a Craig Bidondo & Friends night when I heard her singing. "Wow! Who is that?" I had to go find out. Now, she's got her own evening here, joined by Craig on the piano. She really has it all. Pure tone, nice phrasing and plenty of power. WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 17 CRAIG BIDONDO & FRIENDS 7:30 $3 This guy is a magnet for good musicians, and they come out and join him on these special evenings. Craig is a wonderful host and you feel like you're hanging out with friends in a cozy living room, a living room with delicious food and drinks at reasonable prices. Come join our Glee Club. website

FRIDAY OCTOBER 26 KING LOUIE & BABY JAMES 8 PM $10 Baby James is something of a living legend in Portland's jazz community, from his many years as both a musician and a kind of defacto social director. He is one helluva showman and although known primarily as a blues singer he will be focusing on jazz standards this night. Louis Pain, having cast his lot with the B-3 during the decades when it was out of fashion, has made his mark as a right-hand man to such revered Portland bandleaders as Paul deLay and Mel Brown. Joining in is Renato Caranto, Eddie Martinez and Micah Kassell.
