Happy Thanksgiving

from Prometheus Books!

Dear readers,

Thank you for your support this past year!

2011 has been challenging for the book business. A major national chain retailer closed its doors forever, leaving customers without shelves and tables to browse and leaving publishers with unpaid orders and not-returned books. (Borders had close to 400 stores, 6.8 million sq. ft. of selling space, and $431 million worth of inventory, according to this article.) The burgeoning ebook market is still evolving, with price points, devices, formats, and quality control changing all the time.

But what has not changed is the enduring appeal of a good book - whether enlightening nonfiction or a compelling novel. And we are proud to have brought you both, through our Prometheus Books catalog and our Pyr brand of science fiction and fantasy. In 2012, we are excited to add another dimension to our press with the launch of Seventh Street Books for mystery and thriller fiction.

And so, we are thankful. We are buoyed by new books reaching a hungry audience: What Makes Your Brain Happy and Why You Should Do the Opposite by David DiSalvo, for example, or Planesrunner by Ian McDonald.

And we are thankful for all the people like you, who, regardless of age or interests, love to spend time with a great book despite the lure of so many other activities and demands on your time.

With thanks, and warm wishes for a happy holiday,
