Happy New Year!
We hope that your holidays were safe and enjoyable. We would like to thank all of you for your patronage and loyalty to us during 2007. You helped us to make it another successful year! We also hope that both you and your plants had a healthy and happy 2007.
Due to the cold weather and short holiday weeks we are currently holding many orders; one of them may be yours. We hope to resume shipping again (at least to the warmer areas of the country), on January 7th, again weather permitting. Thank you for your patience in this matter. We will do everything possible to get you your plants as soon as conditions allow!
In the meantime, for orders placed in January, we are offering 10% off of all supply items (non-perishable goods only). These we can ship to you right away! You are welcome to add some supplies to an existing order to take advantage of this savings, if you wish. See details for this January special below.
Wishing you the very best for 2008!

Non-perishable savings!
Orchid repotting season is not that far away! You can stock up on pots, media, pesticides, and other plant-related supplies and save money during January. Orders placed in January for non-perishable items will receive a 10% discount!! Website and mail orders only!
If you wish to add to an existing plant order being held at Oak Hill pending shipment, please feel free. The discount will apply only to supply items (no discount on plants).
If you place your order on-line, the discount will not be reflected immediately on your order form. We will make a manually adjustment to apply the discount here after downloading your order. The "after-discount" total will be charged to your card when your order is shipped.
Shipping and handling charges will be based on the retail cost (before discount) per our shipping tables. Remember, large bulky bags of media and other heavy supplies may cost substantially more to ship. If you wish to get an estimate regarding shipping costs on such items, please phone or e-mail us.

| Growing Tip of the Month - by Liese |

Fungus Among-us!
January: short days, overcast skies, cool temperatures - uh! All of the above add up to a perfect breeding ground for black rot, fungus, bacteria and mold. These can and will attack your potting media and the leaves and roots of your orchids. To prevent this from happening, try to water lightly and only when your plants are thoroughly dried out. Any extra air movement you can generate will also help.
If you are growing in a greenhouse, set your temperatures up 5-10 degrees during and the after watering (overnight). This will also help to dry out your plants. If plants are wet and then become cool at night, black rot and bacteria will grow.
It is also good to have a fungicide/bactericide on hand, such as Phyton 27 or Captan. These will stop the bacteria and fungus from spreading. Physan 20 can also be used mixed in with your watering on a monthly basis to prevent molds and algae from forming.
Black rot and bacterial spots can attack soft-leafed orchids like Phalaenopsis and Paphs very rapidly. Make sure to watch your orchids carefully this time of year. If treated quickly, your plants will not suffer and will make it through the winter months happy and healthy.
Good growing,
Liese |
