Howdy!
Welcome to the "Summer Growing" edition of the Oak Hill Gardens Newsletter. We hope that you and all of your plants are doing well. However, if your orchid area is like ours, this time of year "Summer growing" and "Summer not!" Thankfully, most are growing very strongly. A few of the cool growers, such as Miltoniopsis and Pleurothallids, suffer through our hot summers without a cooling pad. The best we can do is increase the air movement and mist them frequently on hot days.
This month we have a new special, lots of spiked and budded stuff, and some advice from Liese on growing during the warmer months. Check it out!
Best wishes,
Greg, Liese and Hermann
P.S. - Oak Hill Gardens will be at the Parkside Orchid Nursery Summer Festival in Ottsville, PA on July 28-29. If you will be there also and would like us to bring plants to you to save shipping costs, let us know! Hope to see you there. More info is at the link below:

| Growing in the Heat of Summer
During the hot summer months, it is best to use a high nitrogen food weekly or bi-monthly. it is during the spring and summer months when most orchids send out their new growth for the year. Feeding with a high nitrogen food will allow strong new growth which will subsequently yield more and better flowers during the plants blooming season. It is also a good idea to mist your plants lightly and frequently during extremely hot, dry days. This will cool off your plants and add humidity, encouraging healthy new growth.
