Warhammer 40K League Update

Command Training League - Week 1

July 6, 2011

Command Training

For this league we are going to do some Basics training.  This league is designed to, not only help all our new players get a handle on the rules and give them a chance to try out all the parts of their army, but to force some of you Veteran players to try out some new tactics and get you to use parts of your army list you rarely, if ever use.

We'll start with some small, basic lists, explore all parts of the force org chart and then move on to some, what I hope will be fun and interesting new mission types and we'll end, as is so popular with our players, by playing 2v2 Apoc games on the last Saturday of the league.

League Specifics

Cost: $5

No discount this time

You MUST play twice a month, at either store, to be eligible for Prize support.

I've readjusted the schedule so we'll play 7 weeks instead of 8, and have the apoc on Sat Aug 27 so that the league is finished before school starts back up on Sept. 1.

Any questions, feel free to email me.

Command Advancement Training

Week 1

7/12/11 - The Basics

Army Selection

We'll start out with the basics.  You must take two Troops choices and one HQ choice.  You may NOT use Vehicles or Special Characters!  This is your basic force org for most missions.  Without a field commander two units of troops you will not have the flexibility and tactical power to accomplish anything.  This should not exceed 400 points.

Objective

We are focusing on the basics.  Capture and hold as many objectives as possible.  In order to control an objective you must have a troops choice within 3" of the objective and there may not be ANY opposing models within 3" of the objective.  If there are then the objective is contested and no one may claim it.

Deployment

Set up terrain so that 25% of the table is covered in terrain.  The easy way to do this is fill ¼ of the table then move the terrain as you choose.  Something to keep in mind when placing terrain is you want to prevent long, open firing lanes.  Roll off to see who will pick sides and deploy first.  After sides are picked, but before any models are deployed, take turns placing 3 objective markers anywhere on the table that is more than 12" away from either deployment zone or another objective.  Objectives may NOT be placed within impassable terrain.  The winner picks a table edge to deploy from and may place their units anywhere along this edge and within 12" of the table edge.

Reserves

Reserves are not allowed, no matter what the codex says, in this training mission.

Victory conditions

Whoever holds the most objectives at the end of the game wins.  If both players hold the same number of objectives, then whoever has the most kill points wins. (Kill points are the total points of all units destroyed (immobilized) during the battle.)
Sincerely,
