Gnome Games and the DCIŽ gives players the opportunity to play in weekly events and have a shot at cool FOIL prize cards in the process. FNM is designed to keep the play style casual.

For example:
FNM events have significantly less impact on players' ratings than most tournaments; prize cards are available to players in other ways than just to the winners; and for rules enforcement, the emphasis is on teaching players the correct ways to play.

To make it easier to participate, Friday Night Magic events may only be Standard Constructed, Sealed Deck or Booster Draft. We may also run one Two-Headed Giant tournament each month.

Friday Night Magic Rules & Prizes

1st and 2nd place receive one prize card each.

Door prizes - Gnome Games will randomly award the remaining two prize cards to two players that did not place first or second.
FNM events are 8k tournaments and have a Rules Enforcement Level (REL) of 1.

The FNM Card for November 2008 is
Lightning Greaves

All players will receive a M10* just for playing in every Standard Format event!  For sealed qand draft events the prizes may vary.
* while we have M10 in stock

Deck Lists are required for all Standard and 2HG Standard Tournaments.  You can download a blank one here.

In accordance with DCIŽ policies Gnome Games Friday Night Magic events can only be run on Fridays.

Greetings!

This summer has been sizzlin' hot Magic at Gnome Games, and August doesn't show any signs of being any cooler!

July was one of the hottest months on record with the release of Magic 2010 - the new base set.  While predictions of a drought of M10 throughout the land - Gnome Games has managed to escape the drought for now - and plenty of this great set is still available!  We don't expect any dry spell of significant length to be in the forecast at Gnome Games!
WE HAVE 2010 IN STOCK!

August  Friday Night Magic shows just how hot Magic is with heat lightning in the form of Lightning Greaves as the FNM Card.  Remember you can play FNM at both Gnome Games stores every week - 4:00 at the East Town Mall and 6:30 at the Ridge Road Tournament Center.

There are also a couple of things you'll want to get in on FAST this August -

Saturday August 1st starting at 10AM at the Tournament Center we will take in person preorders for the From the Vault Exiled set.  We've heard it contains Berserk and Balance along with 20 more great cards that have been banned in the past.  We've got a VERY LIMITED SUPPLY allocated to us and we will be taking preorders on this set up to that allocation on a first come first served basis.

We'll also be taking preorders for Planechase an Zendikar too!

We also have limited seating left on the Gnome Games Magic Bus headed to Gen Con Indy - where you'll be able to play more magic in 4 days than anywhere else on the planet.  This includes drafts, and every other type of tournament you can imagine - including the 2009 Vintage Championships.  We will  only be taking reservation through Monday August 3rd - so your time is limited.  Visit our website for more information

Gnome Games - Green Bay, WI (920) 499-4263Finally next month we see the Gnome Games Championships, PLANECHASE, and a couple of chances to win Zendikar before it comes out!

Elder Dragon Highlander
"Elder Dragon Highlander," is played with the Singleton format (in other words, except for basic lands, each card in your deck must have a different name), and each player starts with a life total of 40 rather than the usual 20.
Most importantly, the centerpiece of each deck is a legendary creature that serves as that deck's commander. To build a deck, you first choose a legendary creature, called a "commander" or "general," then construct a Singleton deck around it containing exactly 99 other cards. Only cards of the commander's color(s) and colorless cards may be included in the deck.  In fact, if a card contains a mana symbol anywhere on it that's not one of your commander's colors, you can't include it in that deck! Within the game, if you would add mana to your mana pool that's a color not shared by your commander, you get colorless mana instead.

Your commander works differently from other cards in the game. Before the game begins, each player removes his or her commander from the game. You may play your commander from the removed-from-the-game zone (no matter how it got there) for its normal costs plus an additional {2} for each previous time it has been played this way. If your commander would go to the graveyard from anywhere, you may remove it from the game instead. In addition to the normal Magic loss conditions, if a player is dealt 21 points of combat damage from a single commander over the course of the game, that player loses the game!

Gnome Games hosts this great format every Monday starting at 6:00!
Plus on August 17th we'll host a Last General Standing Single Elimination Tournament and give the winner a voucher for a box of From the Vault - Exiled!
