A Word From Brian...

I cannot think of anything more appropriate as a proud Canadian than to head out there into our vast and beautiful country. I will be paddling in Kyuquot Sound off the Northern West Coast of Vancouver Island guiding on one of the many tours that Ocean River offers to special places. I count myself lucky to be able to spend time with our customers, share my passion and continue to discover new things in such a stunning area. In my absence; the great staff at the store and in the Adventure Centre will take care of YOU as you prepare to "Get Out There". Brian |

Special Canada Day Kayak Rentals
 If you're looking for fun to be had this Canada Day, why not rent a kayak from ORS? Kayak rentals will be available from the Adventure Centre on Canada Day at 15% off on first come first serve basis from 9:30am - 8:00pm. We invite you to head to the Inner Harbour on Thursday, July 1st as British Columbia's Capital City hosts Canada Day Celebrations - West Coast style. The celebrations expect to attract over 50,000 visitors and residents to the Inner Harbour for a full day of family-oriented activities.
Some of BC's best up and coming talent will perform on the lawns in front of the Legislature building among them; Hayley Sales, who was honoured as female vocalist of the year at the Vancouver Island Music Awards. Hayley will take stage to delight audiences with her music, which draws influences from reggae to jazz to rock.
Be part of the "Living Flag" that will incorporate 2010 participants from the community dressed in red and white. ORS will proudly be wearing red & white as we join our beautiful city in celebrating Canada's birthday.

2010 MEC Paddlefest - Great Success
Thank You for making the 4th annual MEC Victoria Paddlefest a great event! Held June 5th at Gyro Park, Cadboro Bay many of you came out to join ORS in a celebration of all forms of paddling while focusing on education, fun, and safety on the water. Thank you to MEC for taking the lead on this, this event continues to be an event where the paddling community unite and come together to celebrate "Getting You Out There".

ORPC hosted the 11th annual Island Iron Outrigger race
Considered
one of the premier outrigger races on our coast, Island Iron Outrigger race saw
another successful year. Many heartfelt congratulations go out to
all the paddlers competingon Saturday, June 19th; to the volunteers; Oak
bay and Victoria Coast Guard Auxiliary and of course the paddlers of ORPC (Ocean River Paddling Club), who without all their hard work, Island Iron simply

Paddle Canada Sea Kayaking Level-2 Instructor (5 days)
Sept. 2-6, 2010
This long-awaited,
exciting new course will be of interest to sea kayakers looking to attain
certification to teach Paddle Canada Level-2 Skills courses. You will learn
techniques for teaching intermediate-level strokes and rescues, rolling,
paddling in moving water, and overnight camping. Don't miss this opportunity to
learn new skills, challenge yourself, and gain a national
certification.
Mothership
Kayaking Trip Report
This past month, Ocean River Sports
partnered with Mothership Adventures to offer a truly unique experience in the
Discovery Islands, near Campbell River. Over five days, our group of 8
experienced sea kayakers built their skills in ever increasing tidal currents,
culminating at well-known Okisollo Rapids. Each day, we would paddle our hearts
out in the various nearby currents of the region. At night, we would enjoy a hot
shower aboard the finely appointed Columbia III, then rehash our experiences
over a scrumptious meal. Overnight, we would be whisked off to new location, and
rise after a comfortable sleep to a beautiful new backdrop and a new challenge
on the water. If this kind of experience appeals to you, keep an eye out next
season, as we definitely plan to offer this experience again!
