March was a month of learning for
me. I completed my Wilderness First Aid course, which leads me back into
more kayak guiding this upcoming season. I suggest that if anyone wants to keep active
and learn at the same time, take a course or do a tour that will take you
forward and keep you engaged. You may
even get to go with me!
I also took the Ocean River Digital Outdoor
Photography Level 1 Course which was amazing. It took away all of these
questions of the digital world, and I'm now more comfortable with getting back
into photography. This is a new venture for ORS, as we are always looking
for more ways to get you out there. There's also nothing better than having
pictures from your trips that you can hang on wall with pride. We are looking to do more of this course, as
well as a level 2, so please let us know if you are interested in either of
those. We at ORS are ever changing with new things
in the store and new programs at our Adventure Centre, so come on in and
see all the changes that are going on. Spring is here and it is
exciting. By making the effort to get out there, we all stay
more healthy and active. Cheers, Brian

Environmental News
ORS goes green(er) Many
of you know ORS's colours as yellow and blue but how many of you knew our true colour was
green? Sure we love blue water, but, we love our green spaces too. We want to do our part to help keep Victoria and Vancouver Island
a beautiful place to live and visit. Some of you already know ORS promotes the three R's but, we want you to know we have
taken it to the next level. In order to ensure all of or waste is taken
care of in the most environmentally friendly way; we've teamed up with reFUSE Resource Recovery. ORS now has multiple types of
plastic and paper recycling, full compost and the ability to track how much
weight we've diverted from the landfill! Recycling, just another way ORS
is keeping things green.Have some green ideas? ORS would love to hear
how you are keeping things green, share your ideas and tips with us, perhaps
you will see your idea(s) on our blog or in one of our upcoming issues.

Adventure Centre News Courses, Rentals, Tours and
more...
This last month at the ORS's AdventureCentre has seen
us establish some great connections for the coming season and we're continuing
to look toward the season with great optimism. The new tours we have this season
have been a huge hit. The pioneering Mothership Instructional Tour created a
certain buzz within the paddling community with its appeal of tour like settings
and sea kayaking instruction, aboard a unique craft with superb hospitality. We
are excited that through our partnerships we will bring together the best of
what the West Coast can offer with our expeditions to Kyuquot and Brooks. Word
also has it that the Killer Whales are back in the North Island for yet another awesome ecological
experience! With ORS's relationships in the Johnstone Straight and Gods Pocket,
bringing offerings such as this are made easier for you. Watch this space for
how we are going to make the glory of the Gulf Islands enlightening and exciting for any
paddler! We have seen an increase in registrants for getting into
kayaking with our IKC program and certainly the seasonal interest in people
renewing skills for the coming summer. Believe it, the summer is coming and the
water is calling! We live this life of Island
splendour and it's ours to explore. ORS can help you prepare for the season and
'Get You Out There', we look forward to hearing from you to discuss your
training needs. |
