A word from Brian...
This season has been a record breaking, and super busy at Ocean River. The weather has been hot and people seem to want to get out there more than ever.
Our Adventure Centre has put a ton of people on the water, and I know we have sparked a passion in many of our customers for paddling and getting into the outdoors.
As we enter the fall we plan to use this time to transition in to winter paddling, as well as more snow and alpine sports. Check out our new focus with the best outdoor clothing for getting up into the mountains, on the slopes, or just out into nature.
Our Adventure Centre will be introducing many new aspects of programming to get you out there such as snowshoeing classes - watch out!
I look forward to seeing everyone through the fall as we have the gear for all seasons.

Used and Demo Kayaks For Sale
|
We are selling off our rental and course kayaks again this year -- GREAT DEALS!
ORS rental and course kayaks are always the best boats in the business. Most were new this spring and only used for this season. Our boats are always in great condition and are a real deal as we sell them off at the end of this season.
We are already taking deposits ($300) to confirm the purchase of the boat you have always wanted. Approx. 50 kayaks will be sold off this year, so talk to our staff soon about them.
Boats will be available for pick up in early to mid September. These boats are amazing deals so don't miss out. We also plan to have a few more great used boats at Gear Grab so make sure you check out ORS for used boats.

Rolling
|
|
Sit, roll over - roll up!
This course will teach you the ultimate self-rescue technique. Rolling a kayak is like learning a new dance step: you need to do the
right movement at the right time, then practice until it becomes fluid.

Our instructors will teach you the building blocks to a successful roll
and lead you through incremental steps.

New Staff Alert!
|
|
Changes are constant
here at Ocean
River as we change
seasons. Many of our staff are going back to school and others are staying on
full time as we enter the fall. Although you will see mostly familiar faces, we
have added a couple of great new people to our team. Peter Carson is joining
Ocean River Sports after spending many years as a guide and leader in the
outdoors. Peter attended Lakehead
University in Thunder Bay, Ontario where he received honors in the
Bachelor of Outdoor Recreational parks and tourism program. .For seven seasons,
Peter has worked at the YM-YWCA's Camp Thunderbird where he was the Out Trip
Co-ordinator and staff trainer. Peter brings a wealth of experience and
knowledge to Ocean River Sports that customers will no doubt appreciate. Retail
is new to Peter and he is excited about the challenge. There will be some
winter sport activities this that Ocean River will be doing this season that
Peter's experience and skills will come in handy. You will recognize Peter - he
is the big guy with the big smile.
Kristin Smith came to
Victoria to
finish her masters in Public Administration. She is an outdoor enthusiast and
we were excited to have her apply for a position with us. She has worked for
one of our sister buying group stores, Ebs Source for Sports in Saskatoon. Kristin worked
there for nearly 7 years so comes to us with a wealth of experience in working
in the outdoor business. She is an avid kayaker, marathon canoeist, camper and
skier and can talk the talk about what she loves doing. We feel lucky to have
Kristian join Ocean River and you can expect her fresh smiling face in
Ocean
River.
Adventure Centre is also busy adding
some new staff.
Bruce Holland is back, yes, those of
you who knew ORS years ago might have been on the water with Bruce. We are
super pleased to have Bruce join for force again.
Joe Day, Mike Barns, both
experienced guides and instructors have also joined the AC to learn our ropes
over the winter and help out with programs when necessary.
Welcome aboard everyone and we look
forward to some winter paddling with you guys.
