A Word from Brian
Our big Gear SALE was a great sale again with a big crowd joining us on a somewhat chilly weekend - thanks to everybody who came out for the great deals and to support us. There were over 50 Ocean River staff working Saturday to make it a special event.
On March 14th, we were a big part of organizing the Paddler's Rally in order to bring attention to the proposed Mega Marina. Although the weather was bitter cold and very windy, we had a great crowd of paddlers out there supporting paddler's need for navigable waters in Victoria Harbour.
As we wait for spring to appear there is gloomy news in world economics. Don't despair - in Victoria, we are so very fortunate to not be as effected as most other places. People are upbeat and are still carrying on enjoying life and continue to get out there into the outdoors. I encourage all of you to stay positive and explore our own outdoors.
Last Sunday, I took my two sons back country skiing and snow shoeing in the hills right up behind Jordan River. Although I am a back country skier myself, I most often have gone further to find the places to ski. Little did I realize that there was such great snow so close to home. Our simple day of skiing was brilliant and made me realize again, what an amazing wonderland we have, right in our back yard. Thanks boys for getting Dad out there. We are indeed fortunate.
I hope to see you all in April as we all get ready for our future adventures.

Boat Barn
|
|
We now have more space to display kayaks and canoes.
Check out the new 90' long enclosure in our Breezeway between Capital Iron and Ocean River. With a lot of hard work, we have created a new space that is open, bright and a pleasure to view our extensive lines of boats. This also frees up more space in the store for more great products.
Check it out - there is even a sitting area out there to relax. |
Green Thinking @ ORS
|
|
We recycle everything we can.
Coffee grounds are taken home by the boss to go into Rosie's garden.
Our refundable bottles go to the Victoria Youth Paddling Club to help them with fundraising. Alpine Disposal and Recycle takes all of our paper and cardboard and Pacific Mobile Depots recycles any plastic materials from ORS. The next step is for complete organic recycling.
Thank you staff member Tim Houlihan for your good work.
