The Waves have been Saved!
|
The Integrated Land Management Bureau has chosen to disallow the investigative
permits for hydro projects on Surge Narrows and Okisollo.
This is huge victory for the community, and the direct result of public pressure.
Thank you to all of you who wrote letters!

Ocean River is a proud member Canada's foremost buying group - Outdoor Authentic Specialty Independent Shops (OASIS).
Twenty of Canada's best outdoor retailers bond together to share ideas and increase our buying power so we can be competitive.
You might say that we are the Mom and Pop outdoors store with the buying power of the big guys, but with the small specialty store flavour.

Happy New Year everyone.
Everywhere in Canada had a white Christmas this year, which was awesome. We are Canadian and we all know, that there really is no such thing as bad weather because we know how to dress.
Ocean River was super busy in December dressing lots of people for the weather we had been experiencing. We were glad to have kept so many people warm and dry. Thanks for all of you who trusted us to help you out.
As we enter January, it may be a time to travel south to enjoy the warmer climates or to head to the hills to enjoy the slopes. If you choose to stay here, be ready for the west coast winter weather.
Please come and visit us for any of your outdoor, paddling or traveling needs as January is a great time to "Get out there" Good luck in your adventures in 2009. Brian |

Victoria International Marina Project
Too Big |
|
We at Ocean River are concerned about the possible impact(s) of the proposed Victoria International Marina proposed for the Outer Harbour.
As it sits, there does not seem to be adequate space left for paddlers to safely pass this proposed mega marina.
SISKA and VCKC , two local paddling clubs are actively engaged with the issue, so is Ocean River as we lobby for the paddlers. Read More

The DVBA has extended its very popular free parking campaign, which they featured in December. Every Saturday, in January and February, the DVBA will be paying for two hours of free parking at City parkades and they will be having their meter fairies flitting about adding 15 minutes of time to expired meters.
